~Ambiguity, Suspense, Uncertainty

Samaira
Both of us sat back in my room, a space that exuded a blend of comfort and safety, or it was until I discovered that this mansion wasn't as safe as I thoughts.
There were guns somewhere in this place, and weapons I didn't even know about. That was enough to freeze me in fear.
Avya and I were seated on the comfortable chaise lounge near the desk, surrounded by pillows in varying shades of gold and red. As she opened document after document about our mother-in-law's medical history.
After our adventure in the mysterious room, we made it back before our mother-in-law could suspect anything. She took both of us by surprise; she looked like the last person who would be surrounded by guns and gold, but she was, just an hour ago.
The movement beside me snapped my attention as Avya opened another document, which she claimed was sent by Hridhaan, her husband, my brother-in-law.
This brought up a lot of questions regarding what kind of relationship they have. With his mother being Avya's patient, what changed?
Yet I bit my tongue from asking such questions. It's hardly been a day since she's actually talking to me.
One step at a time, Samaira.
"This is shocking," Avya said, looking at the screen. I looked back at the screen too. It had receipts of payments of monthly hospital bills from an anonymous account directly to Avya's father.
I frowned, not knowing what to make of it.
Two years ago, there wasn't any noticeable strain between the father-daughter relationship, but today there surely was.
I often want to demand answers from Avya, but the time spent away was too much to bridge in a single night, week, or month—the words left unspoken and the cries unheard.
We both suffered differently, yet we ended up here. Some might call it fate.
"The anonymous account sends a hefty amount every month to Dr. Abhir Rawal's account, not the hospital, but his personal one. It's been going on for years. I should have noticed this!" Avya's voice quivered a bit at the end as she took in the new information.
I didn't miss how she called her father Dr. Abhir Rawal.
But I focused back on the information that there was an anonymous stranger involved in this situation. After the shocking discovery about our mother-in-law a few minutes ago—that her memories were back, or a part of it—we both took a moment to let the data sink in.
Then we discussed how to approach this.
In order to figure out our mother-in-law and this family, we needed to investigate from the root. The secrets seemed to be interconnected; we just needed one starting point. And here we were, an hour after brainstorming, looking back at her medical reports and bill payments.
"Did anyone ever visit her when she was in the hospital?" I asked as I sat back a little more comfortably. We were both on the edge of our seats and mind.
