He slowly pulls away and looks into my eyes. "I need to tell you something," he says.
I furrow my brow, puzzled by his seriousness.
"Sure," I reply, concern lacing my voice.
"Uhm, I," he pauses, taking a deep breath before continuing, "I'm Toya Todoroki."
"What?" I step back from him, disbelief etched on my face.
"Keigo, I love you," he reaches for my hand, but I pull away. This is too overwhelming.
"He's dead. You can't be him; he's dead," I protest.
"Please, Keigo, it's me," he insists.
"No, you're not him!" I yell, flinging open the door and descending the stairs.
"Please, Keigo," he pleads, following me.
"Don't call me that," I snap.
"Keigo, stop. I faked my death. I couldn't deal with my dad anymore. It got too tough; I'm so sorry I left you," he sobs, his plea heartfelt.
"Well, you should be sorry. I was left all alone," I shout, exiting the stairwell and re-entering the bar.
"Keigo—"
"Stop calling me Keigo; it's not my name anymore," I cry, tears streaming down my face. This is unbearable. Why would he do this?
"Fine, Hawks. Can we please just go back to the roof and talk about this?"
"Please," he sighs, gently grasping my hand, and this time, I can't bring myself to pull away.
"Yeah, fine. Let's go back to the roof."
"Okay." He squeezes my hand gently and draws me close as we head back to the roof.
We resume our seats on the ledge, gazing at the city below.
"Toya, I missed you," I sob.
"I'm sorry," he replies, his voice cracking.
"It's okay, I understand," I say.
He nods softly, and I lean into him. I understand why he left; his father was terrible, but it still hurt. I loved him dearly, and he left me to mourn him alone.
...
"I'm sorry, Hawks. I knew you two were close," the commission employee says before leaving the room. I sit there, stunned. What am I supposed to do without Toya? He was all I had. He was my everything.
I rise and make my way to Toya's bed, not pausing to dry the tears. Gently, I nestle into his sheets, taking in his scent one final time.
...
"I love you, and I forgive you. I know life was hard for you," I say gently, looking into his eyes. "It's just that I felt so alone and hurt all my life. The thought that you would have wanted me to live was the only thing that got me through it."
"I'm so sorry. I wanted to tell you; I really did. I just didn't know how to reach you or what to say. I was scared you wouldn't love me anymore," he sighs, looking down at his hands in his lap.
I lift his chin to meet my gaze.
"I've never stopped loving you, not for a single moment," I say softly.
"I never stopped loving you either," he whispers, leaning in to press his lips against mine.
It's almost over, it's exiting. I know I'm not very good at writing, so if you've read this far thank you :) Anyways I'm only going to write another chapter, maybe two. And I was thinking about writing more chapters from Dabi's pov. Anyways thanks again if you've made it this far.
