My god I'm so lonely, so I open the window to hear sounds of people..

Cut. Cut. Cut.

Scrape.

Cut. Cut. Cut.

Scrape.

It was a steady and basic rhythm, the knife cutting the carrot and then scraping the cut pieces to the side in a small pile, each cut following a certain pattern as the knife made contact with the cutting board. This continued for the two more following carrots, previously cleaned and peeled for a cleaner surface rid of dirt and discoloration. The large pot beside him was slowly coming to a boil, on medium-high heat, bubbles were slowly forming and steam rising into the air.

"Do you add the carrots now?" Veneer held the cutting board up, watching Brandi as she lifted the semi-adjusted lid with a rag from the pot and nodded,

"Yep, go ahead and add it slowly," she placed the lid on the counter, she also added two full onions cut in half and a full garlic as Veneer poured the cut-up carrot pieces in, "Now we wait for it to simmer before we add the cauliflower, I'll mix the spices for now and you can cut up the celery to add..!" she explained, adding a decent amount of salt just before she closed the pot once again,

"Right right, just let me..", he grabbed a few stalks of celery from the bunch on the counter, quickly rinsing them under the faucet. He shook off the excess water and placed them on the cutting board and his movements were quick and efficient, "this is fun, I don't make soup often since Velvet hates the sound of slurping.." he mentioned, Brandi hummed at this,

"Does she enjoy cooking as well?" she walked to the other side towards the cupboards, raiding the shelves for the necessary spices she needs,

"Sort of, she likes baking more than cooking," he got back into the rhythm of cutting up the celery, "she's pretty good at it, especially pastries so our house always smelled like cookies or even bread.." Brandi nodded along as she gathered the spices needed,

"Have you ever tried baking yourself?" she opened the pot once again and started adding certain amounts of spice, from parsley flakes, garlic powder, summer salts, thyme, black pepper, turmeric and sage. She watched as Veneer hurriedly added his cut amount of celery chunks before reaching for a large wooden stirring spoon, mixing everything together in fluid and gentle motions,

"Yeah, but I'm not very good at it, I always burn the paste or overmix the batter, so I just leave it to Velvet while I handle the cooking!" he grinned, sniffing the air a bit and noticed the aroma filling up the kitchen nicely,

"That sounds nice, it seems you and your sister get along well when it comes to kitchen duties, right?" she set the spoon aside and angled the lid over the pot so it isn't covered completely,

"Aye, we tried to, even back when we lived in the suburbs but...we kinda stopped that once our careers started taking off though..." he sighed, cleaning up his area from the scraps and discarded pieces of the vegetables he's cut up while brandi returned the spices to the cupboard,

"Why is that?" she asked genuinely,

"I don't know, I guess ever since we moved, there was no reason to try anymore when we had our assistant doing it for us.." he walked over to the sink once again and ran water over the cutting board before pat-drying it down with a paper towel for the next use,

"Did that upset you?" she turned back to face him, leaning against the counter as Veneer set the cutting board back in place for Brandi to use after,

"I...don't really know..." he had a hand over his forearm, "everything was happening so fast, I just followed Velvet along even when I knew what she was doing was wrong and seeing how much it started draining Floyd...." he gripped his apron, guilt expression settling over his facial features as Brandi kept silent, "I never even wanted to be a popstar, sure I loved writing lyrics and creating instrumentals for them but...it was more of a hobby than anything.." he felt a hand on his shoulder, he looked up and made eye contact with Brandi,
