OCTOBER 1, 1984 GERMANY

The wind chimes tinkled slowly as a soft breeze blew through them. A woman sat on her chair, rocking back and forth with a small smile on her face. In her arms she held a child - a boy who was fast asleep.

She was waiting for her husband, who should be done with work by now and would soon arrive for dinner. The table had already been set, all she needed to do now was keep the food warm in the oven.

The quiet tinkling of the wind chimes grew louder as the wind picked up, the warm summer breeze now turning into a much harsher one. Nervously the woman looked around, tugging at the blanket around her son to keep him warm.

The sudden change of atmosphere was forgotten as a car drove into the driveway. The woman stood up with a smile in her face and waved towards her husband, who greeted her with a kiss. He gently took the boy from her arms to greet him as well.

Pain suddenly erupted in the woman's stomach and she let out a sudden gasp, clutching at her husband to prevent her from falling. Her stomach was growing fast and blood began to pool at her feet as she let out a scream of pain.

The drive to the hospital was a long one and the woman knew they wouldn't make it in time. Somehow she was pregnant and that baby needed to get out. Now.

Two hours later a girl was born. It had been a home birth, the only help she'd gotten was from her neighbour who had five children. The baby hadn't cried when she'd been born, only gazed at her parents with a curious gaze on her face. Her eyes were a startling green, uncommon for a newborn baby, but not unheard of. She reached out towards her birth mother with a giggle, though the woman gazed at her with a look of disgust.

"Teufelskind." The woman muttered. Devil's child.

On the twelfth hour of the first day of October, 1989, forty-three women around the world simultaneously gave birth. This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer, resolved to locate and adopt as many of these children as possible.

He got eight of them.

This isn't the best beginning, but bear with me it gets better. I'm not quite sure when and how often I can update, I have written the first three chapters and am going to wait until I've written at least six until I post the first chapter, so that I'm not stressing too much about updating! I really hope that you'll give this story a chance, since I've got so many ideas and can't wait to put them into words.

English isn't a language I grew up learning, so if there are any spelling or grammatical errors please forgive me :)
This is also my first fanfic on Wattpad, so bear with me, I'm still trying to figure out how this app works, since I'm more active on Ao3!
