As she straightened her spine, she faced the plump man about 167 centimeters. He had a pale complexion contrasted with his shaggy, charcoal-black hair and tattoo sleeves. His large stomach hung over his leather belt, highlighting his considerable weight.
"Of course, I'm glad we could hire you. We would like for you to start as soon as possible." Mr. Han grinned warmly at Irene. Briefly, turning his wide back to her for a short moment, navigating around his artificially wooden desk, grunting as he bent below three computers lined in a row together. Rising, he returned with his stumpy fingers wrapped around a bunched-up black apron, which he presented and handed off to Irene.
"This will be your uniform. We only ask that you wear non-slip shoes, and to wear lighter colors," he explained, kindly.
"Okay. thank you so much." Irene dipped her head to Mr. Han, as she was turning away from him towards the wooden door.
"Of course," he gave her a pat on her upper arm. She flinched a bit at the contact, not expecting it. She walked away through the doorway, her phone in her hand.
She strolled down the chilly winter street, her white hoodie billowing like a sail on a sailboat in the frigid gusts of wind. Her milk-tea brown hair swirled and aggressively waved around her face. Occasionally yanked by the belligerent gusts, she managed to keep a steady foothold on the damp concrete. Her neck was tightly tucked between her shoulders, shielded away from the clawing winter, looking for any bare skin to stretch ice claws into. Despite the harsh weather, Irene couldn't suppress her smile- the first genuine one in weeks. She finally achieved it; she was hired for a perfect job.
She walked through the barren city, her smile unwavering. She fished her phone out of her crossbody, army green bag. The first person she wanted to text was Mira, who often tagged along with Irene to the internet cafes on Irene's days off. Mira spent her time sitting with Irene, helping her find job applications on the computers, and simply giving Irene comfort. The girls were growing closer and closer with the times they spent together, and luckily, Irene needed that.
