TW: Blood, death, minor gore
Thalia and I were trying our best to hold on, but ever since the others left I couldn't help but slowly lose hope. I gripped my dagger tighter and slashed a hell hound in the stomach as I watched it turn into gold dust.
I can't be thinking of such things right now. Now was not the time to give up, but it wasn't hard to notice that even though Thalia and I were fighting to the best of our abilities, the efforts were futile. We were hopelessly out numbered and surrounded. Even the ever so evident determined look in Thalia's eyes usually had, had started to dim. Maybe this really is the end. Honestly, it wouldn't be such a bad way to go. I always thought I'd go out with a bang to be honest.
I got distracted by my fantasies of death which was a grave mistake. A hell hound clawed at my face, but I was luckily able to dodge, avoiding an eye blinding injury. Unfortunately, that didn't stop the claw from slashing my chest. I stumbled and collapsed in pain, an anguished cry could be heard as I clutched my chest in pain.
Thalia cried out my name once she saw what happened. She was at my side in an instant and killed the hell hound with ease despite her worn out state. I tried to stand, but I once again crumbled under the immense pain I was in.
Many claw marks, punctures, slashes, and gashes could be seen on my body. There was more blood that could be seen on me than skin, which I guess was worrying. Blood continuously gushed from my wounds and dripped onto the rough ground. Thalia took a look at me and saw how terrible my physical state was at the moment.
Thalia steadied herself in front of me and readied her sword in front of herself. Her gaze steeled with an extreme amount of determination. As I watched Thalia in that moment, I could see a veil of a smoke like substance surrounding her. Despite my current state, I furrowed my brows in confusion. I've seen this weird aura around others before, but it was always faint. Whenever I saw this veil it was as if I could feel an inevitable end to their life approaching. Although right now, I could see it very well. It surrounded her in thick clouds. It gave me an uneasy feeling, as if death himself was here with us.
I shook my head, dismissing the feeling and chalking it up as my imagination in a desperate moment. My legs were unsteady and shaked as I tried to stand, we were both breathing heavy with short needed gasps of air. We stood back to back with our weapons at the ready. I leaned slightly on Thalia for support.
We continued to fight with everything we could.
A quick movement to Thalia's left took my attention as I realized she wouldn't notice the furrie flying at her. At the last moment I leapt in front of the flurrie's strike, taking the sharp claws to the stomach. I once again fell, but this time blacking out. Either from the pain or the exhaustion, or maybe both, or maybe it was from the blood loss. Before I could totally lose consciousness, one thought appeared in my head.
Thalia's still fighting.
I tried to will myself to stay awake, to help Thalia as I promised I would. I could faintly hear Thalia's cries of pain and her crying out my name in pure sorrow, but it started to muffle as my conscious slowly slipped in and out of focus. 'Shit' I thought.
I blinked my eyes open.
Flashes of her rage filled eyes and clashes of her sword filled my vision.
My eyes closed, then opened again.
She was in front of me this time. I could make out her figure as monster and monster continuously tore her body apart in front of me. Blood splattered everywhere across the ground, the trees, in the air, on my face.
The veil of death continuously thickened, to the point where it almost felt suffocating. I realized in that moment that one of my best friends had just died. My desperate need to cry out her name in despair got caught in my throat. I felt numb. I could feel the familiar lump in my throat appear and the need to cry come, but it never did. I couldn't cry as I watched her body fall to the ground. I couldn't cry when I saw her pale face once full of life, drain of color. I couldn't cry when I heard her last words either.
"Protect the others for me, will you?"
I couldn't respond as my eyes were involuntarily closed.
I felt another presence appear and my eyes surprisingly opened. Shockingly, I felt at ease by the new presence.
A man had suddenly appeared beside Thalia. He raised his sword at the monsters with a grimace on his face. He muttered a few words in disappointment towards the monsters and snapped his fingers. Suddenly, all the monsters had turned to gold dust.
His appearance was of a young man with a towering height. He had dark chocolate colored skin with longer slicked back hair which could be described as jet black. He had a muscular figure that was lean, but the muscles could be seen through his clothes. He turned around to face me and I noticed that his face was eeriely handsome. He had to be the most beautiful man I've ever seen in my short life. He had a chiseled jawline and honey gold eyes that seemed to glow in the dark night, his eyes seemed very similar to mine. His expression held one of seriousness, but kindness and peacefulness exuded from him. Despite me bleeding out and practically dying, I felt peaceful and calm even though I could very much sense death surrounding him. The most noticeable thing about him though, was his gorgeous large black wings that spread out. Hints of dark purple could be seen on his wings when light hit them at the right spots. It almost looked like crow or angel wings.
He slowly approached me and sheathed his sword, which was a three feet sword that emitted death itself and was black as a nightmare. He gave me a small smile and placed his hand on my shoulder. As he did I immediately felt relief course throughout my entire body. I could feel my injuries start to close up and stop bleeding, although I could tell they were still there, but I felt no pain whatsoever. He made eye contact with me and I could feel myself shrink in his presence. His golden eyes were boring into mine almost as if studying my dying figure, but it brought me a strange sense of peace.
"Sleep my child." He spoke, his voice sounded almost heavenly, as his words smoothly flowed from his mouth.
"Who are you?" I croaked and managed to question.
"You will know within time, but remember Mariposa, you are more important than you think." The mysterious figure spoke.
And after hearing those words, I finally, actually, blacked out. My last thought was,
Finally. Some deserved sleep.
