[Vinland, summer 992] During their youth, Mikael insisted that his children practice using the staff everyday. He had always dreamed of making his children strong warriors, as he thought he was.He wanted to handle his children in his own image. Scarlett Riley, the daughter of one of Esther's witch former friends loved watching the Mikaelson brother practice fighting. More precisely, she loved watching Elijah practice fighting.
- Come, Rebekah, Henrik, your brothers are fighting, Scarlett informed the two youngest Mikaelson before running towards Elijah and Klaus.
Rebekah and Henrik ran behind her, and the trio stopped a few meters from the swordfighting in order to avoid accidental injury. Klaus brought his sword down sharply in order to attack Elijah, but Elijah brought his up, stopping him. So they backed away.
- Oh, look, Scarlett arrived. To watch your fast approaching defeat,Niklaus teased.
Both Scarlett and Elijah's families were aware of the feelings they shared. They had never admitted it to themselves though. Elijah and Scarlett have known each other since the crib. They were born only four months apart. They grew as best friends, and started to grow romantic feelings for each other.
- On the contrary, brother, Elijah retorted, not wanting to sound weak in front of Scarlett.
Scarlett smiled at him and he sharply brought his sword, but Klaus managed to block his attack. They tried a few more attacks, before Elijah found a way to beat his brother. While Klaus lunged forward, getting ready to bring his sword down, Elijah stooped down and brought his sword down on Klaus' belt, winning the fight. Scarlett and the youngest Mikaelson siblings applauded, as they both smiled. It may have been a fight for their father, but for them it was entertainment. Elijah walked towards Scarlett.
- I am truly impressed, Elijah, she complimented him with a smile.
- Would you like to go on a walk with me? Elijah asked, suddenly getting nervous, fearing a refusal.
- I would love to, she answered with a smile.
Elijah placed his hand on Scarlett's back, leading her towards the forest. The full moon wouldn't be for several days, so they were safe. The two teenagers would often go on a walk after Elijah practice. Yet the man still felt nervous about asking it to Scarlett. They were walking in silence, enjoying the beauty of nature around them. Suddenly Elijah stopped walking, and walked away from the walking path.
- Wait a minute, Scarlett heard even his voice say not so far away, even if she couldn't see him.
- What are you doing, Elijah? She asked him, wondering what he was doing.
