The first light of dawn filtered through the grand windows of my new chambers, casting a warm glow over the intricate tapestries and the rich, polished wood of the furniture.  Despite the exhaustion of yesterday's events, I felt a renewed sense of purpose.  The responsibilities of kingship were already pressing in on me, and there were matters to attend to before Prince Jacaerys departed for Dragonstone.

After dressing in a simpler, yet still regal, attire suitable for morning meetings, I made my way to the small council chamber.  The corridors were quieter today, the bustling excitement of the coronation replaced by the normalcy of palace life resuming its course.  I thought about Jacaerys, who had been given a chamber for the night, and wondered what his thoughts were on the alliance we had forged.

I entered the council chamber to find Ser Thaddeus already waiting for me.  The old knight rose from his seat and bowed deeply, his age evident in the stiffness of his movements. Ser Thaddeus had served my family faithfully for decades, and his wisdom had been invaluable.

"Good morning, Ser Thaddeus," I greeted him warmly.  "Please, sit. What do you wish to discuss?"

"Your Majesty," he began, his voice steady but tinged with a hint of sadness.  "I have served House Wyllt for many years, through both peace and turmoil. It has been my greatest honor to protect your family and our kingdom."

I nodded, understanding the weight of his words.  "And you have done so with unparalleled dedication and bravery, Ser Thaddeus. Aurea is safer because of you."

He smiled faintly, the lines on his face deepening. "Thank you, Your Majesty.  But I am an old man now, and I fear my strength is not what it once was.  I can no longer wield a sword with the skill required to defend Aurea.  Therefore, I must humbly request to step down as Lord Commander of your Kingsguard."

The words hit me harder than I expected. Ser Thaddeus had been a fixture in my life for as long as I could remember, a symbol of unwavering loyalty and strength.  But I could see the truth in his eyes, the toll that time had taken on his body.

"I understand, Ser Thaddeus," I said softly, my respect for him deepening even further. "Your service has been beyond exemplary, and it is with great honor that I accept your request.  However, your wisdom is still needed. I would ask you to remain as an advisor to the crown, guiding us with your experience."

He nodded, visibly relieved.  "It would be my honor, Your Majesty."

With that settled, I knew the next step.  There was only one person I trusted implicitly to take on the role of Lord Commander—my closest friend, Felix Black.  Leaving the council chamber, I made my way to Felix's quarters, reflecting on the years we had spent together.

When I reached his door, I knocked lightly. "Felix, it's Mylo. May I come in?"

"Of course," came his quick reply, and I entered to find him sharpening his sword.  Felix looked up, his dark eyes meeting mine with curiosity.  "What brings you here so early, Your Majesty?"

I chuckled at his formality, knowing it was mostly in jest.  "I have a matter of great importance to discuss with you, Felix.  Ser Thaddeus has requested to step down as Lord Commander.  I need someone I can trust implicitly to take his place.  I need you."

Felix's eyes widened slightly, and he set his sword aside. "Me? Mylo, I'm honored, but are you sure?  This is no small responsibility."

"I am certain," I said firmly.  "You have proven your loyalty and skill time and time again.  There is no one I trust more to protect me and our kingdom.  And besides," I added with a knowing smile, "you have... certain abilities that make you uniquely suited for the role."

His gaze sharpened, a flicker of understanding passing between us.  Felix had confided in me long ago about his lycanthropy, and while it was a closely guarded secret, I had never seen it as anything other than an asset. His heightened senses and strength were unparalleled.

Felix nodded slowly, his expression turning resolute.  "If that is your wish, Your Majesty, then I will serve as your Lord Commander."

"Thank you, Felix," I said, clapping him on the shoulder.  "I know you will be exceptional in this role.  Now, we have much to discuss and prepare for. I have a lot of promotions and demotions to order. I will speak with you soon."

As I began to walk away, I had another question. "Do you know where Aurora is by chance?"

"N- No. I haven't seen her." He replied quickly.

I squinted my eyes. Felix wasn't someone known to falter his words. "Very well."

As I left Felix's quarters, I knew my next destination. Jacaerys was still here, housed in one of the royal guest chambers, and there were matters to discuss before he departed for Dragonstone.

The proposal he had made yesterday lingered in my mind, a promise of alliance and unity that could change the fate of our kingdoms. The weight of that decision, and the implications it carried, was not lost on me.
