jacaerys' pov

The journey back to Dragonstone was swift, the winds in my favor as Vermax cut through the clouds.  My heart pounded with a mix of exhilaration and anxiety.  Mylo had agreed to the alliance, but the weight of what lay ahead pressed heavily on me.

As Dragonstone came into view, the familiar sight of its jagged peaks and dark towers brought a sense of grounding. Vermax descended gracefully, landing in the courtyard where my mother, Rhaenyra, awaited.

I dismounted and approached her, trying to keep my excitement and apprehension in check.  "Mother, I have news."

Rhaenyra's face was a mask of composed concern, but there was a hint of hope in her eyes.  "What news do you bring, Jacaerys?"

I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. "King Mylo of Aurea has agreed to our proposal.  He has pledged his support for your claim to the Iron Throne."

For a moment, a lightness filled her expression, a glimmer of hope in these dark times.  "That is wonderful news, Jacaerys.  With Aurea's support, our position is significantly strengthened."

Just as I began to feel the weight lift from my shoulders, her face fell, shadowed by a grief I had not yet noticed.  "But there is something you must know," she said, her voice trembling.

My heart sank, sensing the gravity of her words.  "What is it, Mother?"

Rhaenyra's eyes filled with tears, and she took a step closer, her hand reaching out to touch my arm.  "Lucerys... Lucerys is dead."

The world seemed to tilt around me, the air rushing out of my lungs.  "No," I whispered, disbelief and anguish crashing over me.  "How? When?"

Her voice broke as she spoke, each word a dagger to my heart.  "He was sent to Storm's End to gain Lord Borros Baratheon's support. But Aemond was there, and... and Vhagar.  There was a storm, and in the chaos, Aemond killed him."

I staggered back, my mind reeling. Lucerys, my beloved brother, gone.  The joy of the alliance with Aurea felt hollow in the face of this loss.  "Aemond... he murdered Lucerys?" My voice shook with a mix of fury and sorrow.

Rhaenyra nodded, her own grief evident.  "Yes, and this cannot go unanswered. We will avenge him, Jacaerys.  We will ensure his death is not in vain."

Tears streamed down my face as I struggled to process the devastating news.  "I will make sure of it, Mother.  Lucerys will be avenged, and we will prevail."

In that moment, the alliance with Aurea took on a deeper meaning.  It was not just about power or politics; it was about justice and retribution for my brother.  As we stood there, united in our grief and determination, I vowed to see this through to the end.

mylo's pov

The events of the past days had weighed heavily on my mind.  My conversation with my mother had revealed a harsh reality: she was deeply entrenched in the old ways, resistant to change.  Her vision for Aurea was clouded by tradition and personal bias, and I knew I needed a different perspective—someone who could help guide the kingdom forward.

As I made my way to Aurora's quarters, I replayed the conversation with my mother in my mind.  Her scorn for the alliance with Dragonstone and her disdain for my decision to marry Jacaerys had only solidified my resolve.  I needed someone I could trust implicitly, someone who understood my vision for Aurea. Aurora was that person.

I knocked on the door, and she opened it, her face lighting up with a smile.  "Mylo," she greeted, stepping aside to let me in.  "What brings you here?"

I stepped into her room, the familiarity of it bringing a sense of comfort.  "Aurora, there's something important I need to discuss with you."

Her smile faded slightly as she picked up on my serious tone.  "Of course, Mylo.  What's on your mind?"

I took a deep breath, trying to find the right words.  "I've been thinking a lot about the future of Aurea and the decisions I've made recently.  I had a conversation with my mother... it showed me that she's too stuck in the old ways to be the guiding force I need."

Aurora nodded, her expression understanding. "She's always been very traditional.  It's difficult for some to accept change, especially when it challenges their long-held beliefs."

"Exactly," I said, relieved that she understood. "I need someone by my side who can help me navigate these changes, someone who sees the future the way I do. Aurora, I want you to be my Hand."

Her eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, she was speechless. "Mylo, are you sure? This is a huge responsibility."

"I've never been more sure of anything," I replied firmly.  "You've been my closest friend, my confidant, and my advisor in all but name. You're the person I trust most to help me lead Aurea into a new era."

Aurora's expression softened, and she reached out to take my hand.  "I'm honored, Mylo. Truly.  I will do everything in my power to support you and help you build the future you envision for Aurea."

"Thank you, Aurora," I said, squeezing her hand.  "I know you will. Together, we can make Aurea stronger than ever."

We stood there for a moment, the gravity of the decision settling in.  I felt a sense of relief, knowing that I had made the right choice.  With Aurora by my side, I was confident that we could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
