What on earth, Oscar thought. She wanted him to keep to his own devices, in other words, stay the hell away from her! That was ridiculous. They were married for God's sake and lived in the same house, in fact, next door to each other. Oscar wanted to say no but she had left the room so quickly that there was no time to say anything and his mouth was filled with the roast chicken. Tonight had not gone how he had imagined it, Rather the exact opposite.
'Keep to our own devices. Thanks for understanding' the words kept repeating in Oscar's mind, as he walked to his chambers, but the fact was he didn't understand. He stopped outside his room and stared at hers. Should he knock? But what would he say? whatever he would say wouldn't make sense.
He thought she liked him. He had caught her looking at him secretly, and smiled to himself. The attraction was still there. All she needed was a push in the right direction and a bit of flirting. He would have her soon, with a little bit of patience.
Oscar liked challenges. If he could complete challenges such as emigrating to South America and his trips around Europe, then why couldn't he make a women, not forgetting his own wife like him. Maybe things would be better in the morning, he thought falling asleep thinking of the wonderful women next door.

Light spewed into the room. Oscar forgot he hadn't closed the curtains. Thank goodness, Edward his valet was returning today. Oscar looked at his watch, it was 8.30 only. He had slept better than he had expected and had felt as if he slept for more longer. Oscar remember sleeping in this room all the times before. It always felt so dark, big and cold and looking around nothing had changed. Lady Pierce hadn't even bothered with his room. Why? Oscar thought curiously getting out of his huge four poster bed. He wondered if the whole house was sleeping or awake ready for the day ahead of themselves.
Oscar opened the door having washed and changed and found a maid existing Lady Pierce's room.
'Good morning, my lord' she said.
'Er yes you too.' He said wondering why she even greeted him in the first place. But he felt slightly pleased. It seemed that he would be joining Lady Pierce for breakfast.
Before Oscar had even entered the room, he could smell the delicious breakfast heading his way.
'Good morning my Lord.' Harry said opening the door for him. The room was empty again, but this time everything was prepared and looked as if it had been occupied.
'Where's Lady Pierce?' Oscar asked casually.
'Oh, she has already eaten.'
Oscar nodded wondering what time she had woken up and what time she had eaten.
'Lady Amelia is an early riser. She never sleeps after 7' Harry informed him. Oscar nodded trying to hid his amusement. Why would someone wake up so early when they had nothing to do for the rest of the days besides probably sow or whatever little the aristocratic women did.
Oscar took a bite of his scrambled egg. It was salt less.
'Why doesn't this have any salt?' Oscar asked Harry.
'Lady Amelia adds the salt after.'
'Why do you keep in calling her Lady Amelia instead of Lady Pierce.' He asked slightly annoyed.
'Well, her ladyship insisted we use her first name a while ago. She said Pierce felt too foreign and unfamiliar to her.' Harry said cautiously.
'Is that so?' Oscar looked out the window. He needed to freshen his mind. The women's ideology and methods where irritating him. His name felt too foreign to her. It was bloody English for God's sake.
