The next day…Was Abby always this rebellious? Because I genuinely don’t remember.
We were all on patrol and the snowfall was intensifying, leading us to heading back to Selfella - the settlement.
Now, Abby didn't get the memo that all of us being told to go back included her. And now I have to be the one to go back and get her.
Great, more alone time. Because that's definitely not awkward (!).
By the time I get to the run-down building we were last at, the snow has definitely thickened about two inches off the ground. I guide my horse through the beaten garage door by hand, and I slam the door down to prevent any of the little amount of heat escaping from the building.
It's an old watchtower, and there's nothing much left inside anyway except torn furniture and unimportant books.
It's also very quiet, so I leave my horse and head out into another room.
“Abby!” I call out. I'm met with no reply. I head further into the large room, two couches in the middle and a small table in front of them.
“Abby, come on! Don't pull shit like this!” I shout, a little sterner than before as my expression hardens. Why am I chasing her? Again?
No, I'm angry at her. I'm not going to be nice.
“This isn't funny! We need to head back before any stupid storm starts and traps us here for hours on end!” I shout again, pausing in the middle of the room as I look at the three closed doors in the room too.
Then a clear of the throat catches my attention and I spin around to face Abby, my eyes immediately narrowing at her unbothered expression. Before I can speak though, she simply turns and exits the room through a door, and I realise her jacket and backpack have been discarded in another room.
With a huff, I reluctantly follow her, my eyes on her muscular back as we head up some stairs. I make sure to keep my distance. “You knew I'd come back, didn't you? And now you're taking the piss. Why didn't you leave when that was our order?”
She doesn't answer and keeps walking, guiding me towards a room at the end of the corridor as we reach the second floor. I step through into the room after her, watching as she leans back against a desk in there where her bag is splayed out across.
Closing the door behind me, I lean back against it and cross my arms in front of my chest, keeping my hard gaze on her. “Well?”
Her tongue runs over her front teeth as she looks around the room, feigning innocence but I can see her restraint slowly breaking. “You should have been looking over your shoulder at me to see if I was coming along at all.”
I scoff. “You're not my responsibility to look after—”
“I was yours at some point though, wasn't I?” She snaps, her own eyes hardening as she looks right at me. Her hips, which leant against the desk, now smoothly rock as she stalks towards me. “Don't lie to me and tell me you don't care anymore, Y/N.”
As she walks towards me, I can't help but press myself back against the door, turning my face away to show that I think she's being stupid. “If you were awake for the past few years, you'd realise your own mistake of leading me on.”
“So you think I didn't care at all?” She retorts, guffawing as she stops right in front of me. I can feel the heat from her body flow to mine, and my lips part in protest but she speaks up again. “What, were you blind or something?”
I grit my teeth and turn my head back to look at her, glancing down at her downturned lips before back up at her eyes. “I can't believe how fucking ignorant you are! Did you not ever realise how much more effort I put into our little endeavours than you did?!”
