Soojin
Two months had passed and till now I couldn't find a house to stay in. Financial worries had been consuming me up, depriving my focus from work.
"Soojin, Soojin! Are you listening to me?" Ren asked, shaking my shoulders.
"Oh huh, yes," I said looking directly at him.
"I have been calling you since the last 5 minutes. Are you okay?"
"Yes, I am. What do you want?" I spoke the words quickly, making him confused and scared. Poor chap.
"You called me?"
" Are you and Sakura free in the evening?"
"We are and we will be glad to hangout. See you."
Time passed and the hues of darkness stained the day sky, bidding farewell to the sun and white cotton clouds. The moon rose high up with the stars accompanying him like best friends do. Tokyo lit up with neon electric lights and streets buzzed with citizens and tourists, each minding their own business. Leaves danced to the melody of air filling their soft song in the atmosphere.
I was sitting in quite restaurant, taking in the splendour of the evening.
"Hey! Did you delay?" Sakura called out pulling everyone's attention towards her.
"You could have just said that by going near her dumb ass!" Ren said looking utterly frustrated.
I chuckled at their bickering and signaled them to sit. The waiter served the Blue-berry Mocha tea that I had ordered before their arrival.
"You're so kind miss. You didn't have to do all these. Thank you," Ren said with dazzling eyes.
"Guys, I want a favour from you," I pleaded with closed hands.
"Sure, go ahead," Sakura said sipping on her tea.
"I have been staying at a hotel and now I am developing some financial issues. I would be glad if you two know about a cheap area with a small house. I will complete the payments in monthly installments," I said looking down, fearing about their knowledge to aid me.
"Will it be okay for you to stay at a place in the outskirts of Tokyo? Mind it, it will take 2 hours to reach office from there," Ren asked.
I bit my lips, internally debating with what to say. The travel cost would be more but it would be less than the living cost. For the time being, I could stay and afterwards, I would move.
"Yes, I am okay. Details please."
Sakura began, "You know about satellite cities right? There's a kind of satellite town in the outskirts of the city called 'Hinotani'. We live there. It doesn't have huge malls or restaurants but the atmosphere is really good you know, free from pollutions and less crowded-," she got cut off by me.
"I am interested," I exclaimed.
Leaving in the quite splendour of a serene town is worth of a hectic life.
"We live there and there's an empty house in our neighbourhood. This weekend, we will be meeting in front of our office from where we will be guiding you towards our town. Be ready. Sakura, pack up we have to leave," Ren said.
"Goodbye Miss Min and thank you for today," Sakura said as she placed her bag on her shoulder.
"Thank you so much guys! Love ya," we did a group hug and I left.
It was 8 o'clock by my watch and Tokyo was in it's full mode. While going towards the subway, I found a small stall in an alley selling tteokbokki. I purchased a plate and munching on it decided to walk towards the metro station.
"Soojin, I am here. Save me."
"Please Soojinah, don't change the fate."
My head started spinning, throbbing as I began to hear familiar voices. The plate of tteokbokki fell of my hands as I held both sides of my head to get rid of the stinging pain. Before my vision turned black, I saw confused stares of the people around me.
"Miss Min, are you alright?" Madam Tanaka's voice came into my ears and I attempted to sit straight, but couldn't. "Oh dear, please rest. What happened?"
"I was going towards the metro station when I blacked out, I guess," I took a good look of the surroundings and assumed it to be a nursing home- with crisp sheets, plump pillows and a cozy, warm blanket. Beside the bed there was a night stand on which my ID card and my bag pack were kept. Across the bed there was a wardrobe and bathroom. The window was open allowing natural sun light to enter.
"MISS MIN!! ARE YOU OKAY?" came two loud voices of my other colleagues - Ren and Sakura.
"I am alright guys," I replied back with a smile and Miss Tanaka chuckled as they panted coming into my room.
"Ren! It's your fault you know, we could have dropped her," Sakura looked at him with disbelief.
"Oh, really? Then miss to remind you that you were the one who was afraid of not getting the transportation to reach home," he looked directly into her eyes.
"C'mon you 2, behave yourselves. It's a nursing home," Miss Yuki's stern voice was enough to make them quite and mumble a small 'sorry'.
"We are so sorry Soojin, we left you alone," Sakura said taking my hand in her palms.
"No guys, I am to blame-"
"Miss Min, you can go home as you are discharged. But make sure to take the vitamin pills. We didn't find any abnormalities in your body, so we are assuming it's due to lack of vitamins," the white coated doctor came and handed mee the prescription.
"Were you starving yourself Soojin? Don't na, you're pretty," Ren whined.
"N-no, it was something else. I will just go to the reception and pay the bills," I attempted to get down when miss Tanaka stopped me.
"Our company already did."
"But..."
"We can understand your settling problems Soojin, you can pay us back later. For now, what matters most is your health. You can take a leave for 2 days and join us again on Thursday. Take care," she gave one of her most gorgeous smiles and left- a sense of gratitude washed over me.
"Guys we are going for the house hunting this weekend alright?" I asked
"Sure," another chorus answered and we bade our good byes.
