Laena had always known that her marriage with Daemon wasn't for love.

After all, she had been there when her mother had asked Daemon to kill her bethrothed and take her to wed.

"Daemon"

He scowled at Rhaenys, still upset about his brother's denial of Rhaenyra's hand in marriage. "Cousin" he said cooly, eyes studying Laena inquisitively, "Lady Laena".

She nodded, trying desperately to keep her hope from showing, her desperation and pain from becoming too apparent, "Prince Daemon".

"I need to ask you for a favour" Rhaenys spoke once more, her shoulders were back and her head held high confidently, the posture of a queen.

The queen she should have been.

The queen she never was.

"As you know, Daemon, my daughter is betrothed to the Braavosi sea lords son, yes?" She said calmly. Daemon raised an eyebrow unimpressed.

"Speak plainly, cousin" he warned, lilac eyes narrowing.

Rhaenys frowned momentarily, giving him a disgruntled look, "Me and Corlys have been attempting to rid ourselves of it, I want you to kill him and take Laena as your wife".

The silence echoed hauntingly loud in the halls of Hightide.

"What?" He questioned, looking momentarily taken back, his eyes flickered between the two of them in confusion and wariness. "Do not play mind games with me, cousin" he said cooly.

Rhaenys turned back to look at the fire, a heavy frown on her face, posture heavy, "if the fool takes Laena as his wife, the second she birth he'll attempt to have one of his sons claim a dragon" she paused, "whether that means killing Laena to gain Vhagar".

Laena stiffened up, body seizing as he remembered the way his foul breath felt on her neck as he cornered her, smiling cruelly as he trapped her against the wall.

She remembered the fear and panic. He had only laughed mockingly at her fear as he backed off.

"Oh you're a frigid one, aye, that can be easily fixed on our wedding night, Mayhaps I'll even share you with my men".

Daemon was staring at her, a lips pulled down as his eyes studied her. His brows were creased as he eyed her stiffness with a fiery rage.

He had agreed a fortnight later and they had flown to Pentos a moon's turn later.
