CHAPTER NINE

Volara, Queen quarters...

" Must you leave by dawn ?". Alora asks her mother.

Her mother had roused her from her sleep to speak with her. She had spoken about how an urgent meeting had been called by the Empire, so she had to leave for the empire at first light. So she had planned to take the ten students who had clinched the first ten spots to leave earlier than expected...

" Yeah, I must leave." You have Constance here with you, so you wouldn't really miss me. The queen smiles as she straightens the shoulders of her daughter's dress.

" That reminds me mom, was it you who forced Constance into staying with me for a year.
Alora's gaze became hot as she bore her eyes on her mother.

"No daughter, I would never..." In as much as I dote on you, I am still a queen and I shall respect the opinions of my subjects. Riona said.

" Good, I was just making sure. Alora chuckles as she burrows into the embrace of her mother.

"Mummy..." Alora calls out gently.

" Yes my darling ..." Riona replies.

" I miss the old days, " Alora begins. We were never forced to pretend to be who we were not, how I could boldly express my emotions to you and would not be criticized.
I miss the days where I slept here, holding your hands and you rocking me on your bosom till I slept off.

We were so happy and content. Why must there be society, why must there be rules that govern people like us. We are supposed to be free from laws, our lives are supposed to be enjoyed. But we, the royals, bear the enormous burden of the entire Kingdom, even sharing in that of the empire.

" Yes my little sun, our lives are arranged by fate, we have no choice. But you must find joy in all you do, loving all that comes to you and accepting yourself for who you are as you strive to be better.
Her voice was filled with joy and contentment as though she had seen most of life.

Find things to keep you going, there is no joy in life but the complexities of our human nature, the freedom to choose to love, to hold a grudge, to hate and to forgive. We must make our hardest choices on the long road, and those choices will go along way to shape us. As I always taught you, good daughter, be just in your actions, follow your mind and let your heart guide you.

Life may throw unpleasant surprises to you, obstacles that seem impossible, but you must overcome them. Even if you choose to kill people, you must forgive yourself and move on, for the laws of the world, "kill or be killed", is one that has governed this world for eras and generations.

"You sound as though you have found true peace in this life, mother." Alora grumbled, she liked her mother's lectures on life and the importance of living. But she disliked when she appeared to be too perfect, she had to be bad in some ways.

" Of course, I have..." Riona laughed as she hugged Alora ever so dearly.

Your father, he was the one person that made me feel what true contentment was, although I knew he was bound to leave me someday, I still loved him. He was a good man, a good husband and would have been a good father to you. She sighs.

"But he left ? Alora complains.

" Yes, he had to. He would have brought destruction on us all if he had stayed here any longer. We had known each other for three years.

"Let  me tell you how we met..."

I was returning from the Empire that day when I suddenly felt the sky change and he descended from the sky like a fallen meteorite into the range of the dark woods forest.
I was skeptical about saving him, but I followed my heart to do that. He was damaged beyond repair , half of his body was destroyed and the rest was badly mutilated.
I assisted him in his recovery, which almost lasted two years.
Then we slowly began to fall in love, before having you, that was the most beautiful and blissful moment of my life.
