chapter 9

"Claire!" David's voice rang in my ears.

"David! What is going on?" A familiar voice come from a distance.

"I don't know, Claire, honey, wake up." David said urgently. I could hear many rushed footsteps coming in our direction, great! Now everyone is coming. I slowly opened my eyes, they landed on David at first of course since he was right in front of my face but when I looked around I saw many people standing in the room.

"Hi." Oh god! This is so embarrassing!

"Claire, are you okay?" David looked at me.

"I'm fine, can you help me up?" David looked unsure when I said that, did he really expect me to lie down with all those people in here?

"You should rest honey, you moved a lot."

"David, I want to get up." I'm not paralysed. He knew that if he didn't help me, I would try getting up on my own so he placed his hand behind my head and the other on my back and slowly lifted me up. Now I know what he meant by moved a lot, the pain that hit my chest was so unbearable that I wanted to scream, but the only sound coming from me was a loud hiss, David stopped, ready to make me sleep again, but people can't see me like that.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." Saying it all over again, mostly to myself.

I look around to find the expression that I hate the most. Pity. I'm not weak! I don't know what had happened to make my chest hurt so bad. I hid my face in David's shoulder, trying, desperately not to cry. I never cried in front of Blaise, why would I cry in front of them? A strong Luna does not cry.

"Well, I don't know why you all came in here, in our room, but you can go now, Claire needs to rest." He said our room, I never came here in my life.

Everyone started apologising and getting out, when I looked up, I saw Dylan and Cicilia, David's mother staring down at me with a sad expression.

"Hello Mrs. Nyland, I didn't get a chance to meet you before, I'm Claire." I smiled and stood up extending my hand, but before I could even lift myself up, pain took over again.

"Honey, you should lie down now," Cicilia said "I'm sure we'll have a lot of time to meet." She smiled.

"I'm sorry." I couldn't hold myself anymore, I started crying "I tried putting on a brave act but who am I kidding? Blaise is right, I am incapable of doing anything right." I am weak, I can't do this.

"I'm going to get you some pain killers." David said through his teeth. I completely forgot that he was there, I knew that he would be angry.

"Sorry."

"You didn't do anything wrong Claire." Cicilia said when David went, "he is angry at himself and Blaise, it hurts him really bad to see you in so much pain."

"I can't do this, I'm too weak, scared and disabled, everyone must think that I am the worst Luna they will ever have."

"Honey, you are the bravest person I have ever met, what happened to you will traumatise anyone if they were in your place, but you stood up, ready to fight again, you are going to be the best Luna they will ever have."

"Thank you. I can't believe our first meeting was like that." I wiped my tears and smiled.

"Don't worry about it, the most important thing is the future now." She laughed. I like her.

"Can you call David for me? I want to talk to him." I couldn't call him sleeping like that on the bed.

"Sure thing honey." She kissed my cheek and walked away.
