Chapter 4
-Miracle Astor-
The day of the charity ball arrived.
Despite the twins' protest, we still ended up going to the venue together as a family in the same limo. It's customary when it comes to important events such as this that we arrive together and show up to the public as a family, that's what Damion always insisted ever since dad died. I know my eldest brother is just putting up a show to the public to show them that our family is okay, even with our parents gone, our family is still as perfect as they presumed. But it's just all a lie
Being part of an elite family, like the Astors, is definitely difficult and it's even more challenging if you're only pretending to be a part of them.
Since I was a child even when dad was still alive, I could just never get used to the feeling every time I walked in the glitz and glam of the red carpet with hundreds of cameras flashing around my face and thousand set of eyes staring at me, the feeling of being the center of attention can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. The constant scrutiny and pressure that comes with fame can sometimes feel suffocating, as every move you make is under the watchful eyes of the public and the cameras.
It's like living in a fishbowl, where every aspect of your life is put on display for the world to see. From the way you dress to the people you hang out with, everything is analyzed and dissected by the public. There is a constant need to maintain a certain image, to always look perfect and put together, even when you're anything but.
The feeling of being constantly watched can lead to a sense of paranoia, where you second-guess every decision you make, fearing that it will be judged or criticized. It's a pressure cooker of emotions, I'm telling you.
But despite it all, I continued to soldier through with it and pose for the cameras with my perfected sweet smile along with my brothers all of whom are standing tall, charming, confident, and handsome in their expensive designer suits. I, myself, was also wearing an expensive designer dress that I personally picked with my matching lovely make-up and perfect curled hair that was done by a professional and famous make-up artist. But I still feel different.
Of course, you'd feel different because you are different. You don't belong here
"Can we have a solo shot of you, Mr. Damion Astor?" A cameraman requested that my brother agree after nodding his head to us to go right ahead.
The twins, Corbin, and I walked inside the venue with me following behind them until a cameraman called my name.
"Can we also have a picture of you, Miss Miracle Astor? You look quite lovely tonight."
My eyes were wide in surprise and I looked over at the twins for approval.
"Go right ahead." Hendrix nodded his head, while both Maddox and Corbin rolled their eyes but said nothing as they waited for me.
So I smiled and posed for the camera.
"You look beautiful in that dress, Miracle!"
"You look so grown up now!"
"You're the luckiest girl ever to have such handsome older brothers! You're like their little princess!"
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I suddenly felt uneasy while hearing what the people watching were shouting at me.
Everyone seems to think that even though I no longer have any parents, I'm still the luckiest girl to be the only girl and youngest of the Astor family, they think I'm so loved and well taken care of by my older brothers. Well, they do take care of me and provide me with a bunch of expensive stuff I don't really need, but I don't think I ever felt their love before or felt like I'm really part of the family. They only take care of me and include me for appearance's sake.
