Ella was both nervous and thrilled, having been unable to take her mind off of him since he had rescued her on the train. She had been engrossed on countless conversations during the first feast, everyone thrilled that she had returned, but that didn't stop her from sparing quick glances at Remus Lupin every chance she got.
He really was very pretty.
She had contemplated as she unpacked and prepared for bed whether she should introduce herself once again, this time with him as her mentor, or go to bed and get all the formalities out of the way the next morning before classes began. She decided on the former.
Slipping on her white fluffy slippers with bunny ears and long knit pink pajama pants, and a cream cashmere sweater keeping her warm over her black sleep tank, she made her way over to the DADA classroom. The moon was high in the sky and it was nearing midnight, so she imagined there be low chance he would still be awake. He had his first day to prepare for, after all. Not to mention that his rest had been disrupted on the train by the dementors. He should need his beauty rest.
Still, she was delighted when he answered for her to enter after knocking in the door. "Oh, hello, Ms. Granger," he greeted from across the room. He was organizing a stack of papers into neat rows on the front table. "I presume Professor McGonagall has informed you that I will be your mentor this year."
"Yes. Thank you for this opportunity. I promise, I'll try my very best. No task is too small," she told him eagerly. Her steps were soft, thanks to the cushioning of her slippers, as she walked past the lines of desks to join him at the front of the room.
"I must warn you, I have some... unusual lesson plans and may ask you to do some strange tasks," he told her. He turned around to lean against the table, crossing his arms over his chest, looking effortlessly cool and relaxed – though inside he was anything but, trying so painfully hard not to focus on her beauty and delicacy in the night.
The moon's white light still managed to show off the light blonde highlights of her hair, it like the finest thread of gold. His fingers itched to run his hands through it, to take one of those curls in between his fingers and feel just how soft she truly was.
"That's perfectly all right with me, Professor," she assured him, willing to do anything he asked of her. She would make the most of their time together, learning as much as she could. It was rare that Hogwarts got a competent DADA professor, much less one so charming. "I have high hopes for the year, now. I am very excited to be working with you."
