A grandfather clock ticks away as the father and son sit at the kitchen table. Michael is sitting on a regular table chair, one pant leg rounded up; showing the wound on his ankle. Meanwhile, Morris is on a small stool, his jacket off and wearing powder free gloves.
In one of the older man's hand is a cotton wool, it smells of antibacterial disinfectant. Each time it dries up, he picks up a bottle of disinfectant and applies more to a new piece of wool. He reaches back down to press it against the wound; when his son lets out a hiss.
"Easy," Morris says calmly. While the wound doesn't look as bad as before, it still looked like it would take awhile to fully heal. Even then, there would likely be more scarring.
"I'm glad your mom taught how to use the kit. Or else I think her ghost might come down and give me a wack against the head," Morris jokes. Michael is still staring at the ground, he's been like this since Monty and Moonracer went into the garage for a history lesson. The elder Monroe wonders if it had something to do with Monty almost getting hurt.
"Dad?"
Morris looks up, he looks up to Michael trembling. The old man's eyes grows showing concern looking over the rim of the sunglasses. It'd honestly been a long time since he last seen his son upset.
"Am I a good father?"
The veterans eyes widen.
"Mik-"
"Just be honest with me, Dad."
Tears are leaking from his son's blue eyes, dripping on the floor creating tiny puddles. Michael's blonde hair is matted. The only time he seen him like this was a few years ago. When he was still adjusting to Molly being gone. Michael was lost and didn't think he'd have to take care of Monty alone.
But that all changed when in early-April five years ago; agents from G.H.O.S.T arrived at their front door. According to them, Molly had been caught in an explosion that was set off 'accidently'; her body was never found. Morris still believes that they had to been involved way more than they let on. Although, he mostly kept that to himself to not upset Michael or Monty.
It left a huge hole in the family, Molly's family decided to only do video calls because while they still loved the Monroes, especially Monty; the house had to many memories of a daughter they lost. Monty still refuses think that her mom is gone, as she said time and time again. Michael had required more more support the first few months afterwards; he felt like a husky of himself during that point.
It got even worse when he started doubting himself; saying 'Monty should have a father who's able to look after her no matter what.' He went to therapy for quite sometimes until he started to handle himself again. Morris can see how this incident would cause the doubts to resurface.
Morris takes off his sunglasses, he then says "Mike, Look at me."
Michael looks up, his eyes widen in shock as he sees those familiar pair looking towards him. They been covered by a scarred mask since before he was born; when his father was first deployed as a soldier. He had been injured after a fellow comrade left him behind to die. If it wasn't for his mother, at the time was a on site nurse, then his father would likely died and Michael would never exist.
