Zuko as the Blue Spirit

So, my mind goes on little trips every once in a while, and this is the product of one of those. :)

Ok, so if Zuko just didn't give a fuck about his "honor" and recognized that his father was sending him on a fool's errand to begin with, he would have picked up the Blue Spirit hobby a lot sooner. He and Uncle Iroh would have given the crew a choice to continue into the Earth Kingdom with them or go back to the Fire Nation under the guise of Prince Zuko's death and General Iroh's grief at loosing another family member taking him as well.

Most would choose to return, but a few, namely the captain, the cook, a navigator, and the youngest apart from the Prince, would go with to free themselves from the navy/army and to explore another part of the world. They would split near a Fire Nation colony, giving the rest of the crew a chance to restock for their travel back and time to let the news of Zuko and Iroh's deaths get spread. They would probably make up a story of how they docked and were attacked by the locals in the dead of night, but weren't fast enough to save the rest of their crew. They found the General weeping over the mutilated corpse of the Banished Prince, and it wasn't even three hours before The Dragon of the West fell to the ground and didn't get up again. Where are the corpses, you may ask? Back on the ship of course! (Ship exploding in the background) ...Well they were...

The six of them would travel into the depths of the Earth Kingdom, away from Omashu and Ba Sing Se, to be safe and away from concentrated military efforts. They would settle in four villages. Village #1 would be halfway up a mountain, Village #2 would be on the edge of a forest half a day's travel from the rest of them, Village #3 would be at the base of the mountain along the river right between Village #1 and #4, and Village #4 would be on a lake down from Village #1 and #3, about two day's travel away.

The Captain, Cook, Navigator, and Young Soldier would each settle in one of the villages while Uncle and Zuko would build their own house in the middle of the four. They'd wait for a few months to let everyone settle with the new arrivals and to give themselves time to settle in before the Blue Spirit's first action.

Zuko would wait until close to midnight before setting out grass baskets in circles in the town center. They'd be filled with cooked and preserved meats, preserved fruits, warm tea and small bags of money, courtesy of Uncle and nearby Fire Nation plunderers, respectively. Then Zuko would make as much noise as possible to draw people out, and dissapear into the night leaving only the baskets, a white lotus flower, and a letter stuck to a post that was not there that evening.

The letter would read:

Dear (Village name Here),

It has come to my attention that your supplies have been cut by nearby Fire Nation troops. As I am only one being, I cannot promise more than this:
One night a month I will leave one basket per family in the center of town. If you take more than one basket or anything from another basket, I will know, and you will face retrebution.

I leave food, drink and money for wares. Use wisely.

Blue Spirit

And he would do this on a different week for each town, making sure that everyone at least got something.

Eventually, because of course, the news of the Blue Spirit would reach the ears of a Fire Nation commander. They'd come to the villages, occupy all of them, and take things just to spite the rumors. This is when the Blue Spirit would make his first daylight appearance. After that, the area would be labeled as "Blue Spirit's Guard" and troops would be warned to only set up camp outside village property, to not steal or take anything, and to leave a wild flower in the town center for good luck.

Zuko would never kill any of his people, nor would he allow them to kill others, so I think that he'd just tie them all up in a circle and put a lotus flower on each of their heads. They would be warned to not drop the lotus flower, unless they want diciplinary action to be taken. This dicipline would be a swat on the head, making flower crowns for each of their comrades, and weaving three grass baskets all before the next night and if they don't get it done, they have to make two more grass baskets.

This wouldn't make them afraid or remorseful, but it'd sure be embarassing for a war-hardened soldier to be making flower crowns and grass baskets in front of their entire platoon after recieving a swat and a scolding finger from the spiritsdamned Blue Spirit.

These towns would become known as an all-inclusive traveller hub, wether you're from the Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Water  Tribes, or hold no loyalties. They'd become notorious for not allowing any fights, racism, or threats. You always know who broke the rules, too. They'll be found tied to the post in the town center by an ankle surrounded by flowers and grass ready to be made into crowns and baskets.
