CHAPTER - 6 A GLITCH IN THE UNIVERSE

Ashish lifts the call “Who is this?” He asks …silence…“hello? Is anyone there?” Ashish asks again. “Yes, hello, is this Ashish?” He asks. “Yes, I am but who are you?”. “I’m Vicky’s friend Sanjay. I worked with him on a project before”. “I see! Is there any reason you called me then?”. “Oh yes! Vicky asked me if I could help you with the reincarnation project”. “Oh ok! Thank you for agreeing to help me. I just want to find out if there are any cases of rebirth” Ashish says. “Yes, I called to tell you that there is such a case in Chennai. A boy of age 16 named Prashant known to remember his royal past life. He is in Chennai right now. You should actually come if you have a day or 2 free”. “Sure! Once again, I really thank you for helping me”. “Don’t mention it. Call me when you reach Chennai, we’ll find out more when you come here”. “Sure, I will” says Ashish. The line disconnects… Ashish puts his phone back into his pocket and hums a “Yes” happily that he found the case sooner than he expected. “I should tell professor about it" he thinks and calls Ramanaidu but he doesn’t lift call. He decides to go to Ramanaidu’s house while coming back from the college. When Ashish gets out of the college and is having filter coffee, it starts raining. “Perfect weather for the coffee’ he says and finishes the coffee as soon as possible and heads home before the rain gets heavier. He decides to meet the professor the next day.

Ashish heads straight to Ramanaidu’s house after college but when he reaches prof Ramanaidu isn’t at home. Vimala calls him in and tells him to wait in the study room till he arrives. Vimala goes back into the kitchen to bring some tea for Ashish. He climbs up the stairs. But before he could walk to the study room, he notices the door of the weird room is open. Ashish smiles excited and goes inside the room. A lot of things in the room were eye catching but Ashish walks directly to that cylindrical machine. He could see a number key pad and a few
handles and a calendar where you can set the date/month/year. Ashish gaps when the realization hits him. with a hand on this mouth and a surprised face he
stumbles back. Before I would do anything else. “Why are you in here?” he hears a voice. He turns around and sees
a surprised face of Vimala. “Don’t worry, I’ll not tell anyone about it” he assures her. But is that a time machine? He continues. “Yes” Vimala says. ‘That’s
crazy. Does it work?” he asks excited. “No, I’ve been working on it since last 2 years. It still doesn’t work” Vimala says voice low. “So, you know how to time travel?” Ashish asks. Vimala chuckles “of course I don’t. I’m just testing out the theories that were made by the scientists. None of the theories have worked yet” she says. “So which theory are you testing out now?” Ashish asks eyes filled with curiosity. Vimala shakes her head and huffs “Beta I know how curious you are. I’ll tell you the details so shall we sit and talk?” she says. They sit down and Vimala starts speaking “usually for everyone, time travel is a fictional thing. But I believe it is definitely possible using a bit of physics. Time travel has types like travelling into the future, into the past, time loops. Time loops are totally different from travelling in time. It’s like repeating the same day. I’m not totally sure about travelling into the future but I’m working on travelling into the past now and it can be done by application of second law of thermodynamics” Vimala pauses and looks at Ashish. She could recognise the look in his eyes. Hiseyes carried the same look which Vimala had when she started working on the time machine. “Mam?” Ashish brings her out of her thoughts. “How is that possible?” he asks. She nods and says “It can be done in a few ways.

I am trying to do it with speed of light because most of the trials made this way. Besides me the most recent trial was
made by a scientist using the butterfly effect”. A loud fluctuation sound interrupts her and they run towards the
room. They push the door open and Vimala stands there figuring out what’s happening and Ashish runs towards the machine. She starts searching for a wire and screams “Ashish Stop!!” but it was too late Ashish already grabs the door handle of the machine and when Vimala turns back, he is not there. “Shit!!” she curses.
