It's a nice sunny day and Nunew was standing on the Westminster Bridge. He's looking at the vast river and the busy streets of London. There's a lot of tourists today. Most of them are taking photos of the Westminster and the Big Ben. But Nunew cant hear them. He seemed to turned deaf on the chit chats of the people around him, even the sound of the cars and the boats that sail past underneath the bridge. He cant hear anything aside from the sound of his own heart beat in his ears.
He gripped hard on the railing as he feels the cold wind brush past his skin. He inhaled deep, tears are threatening to escape his eyes. He heart feels numb as his body aches like his bones are about to fall off. He doesnt what exactly to feel.
Relief?
Empty?
Numb?
After suffering so much for 1 whole year, Nunew finally managed to shout a cry for help. What he didnt expect after stepping out of the abusive relationship was the feeling of confusion. He should be relieved, happy, joyous even. But Nunew feels more confused that ever. He feels remorseful and empty. He's afraid that all the good things in life are already past him. That he missed all the opportunities he couldve had and maybe HE was right.
"No one's gonna love you like the way I do. You're like a broken merchandise, no one would want a damage item like you."
His voice echoes in Nunew's head.
Nunew bit on his lower lip. His knuckles turn white as his grip on the old rusty railing continue to go tighter.
"No one would miss you if you're gone. Only I care for you. You're worthless to everybody else. Im the only person you have"
Nunew's breathing got deeper. His eyes continue to look at the river infront of him.
Maybe he's been right all along. Im a nobody who's worthless to everybody. I wouldnt be missed if I go
The wind blew past his face again and the urge to fall down the cold water surge through him.
But before Nunew could move any muscle, a deep voice suddenly spoke beside him.
"The darkest night is often the bridge to the brighter tomorrow."
He said in perfect english.Nunew looked at his side and he saw a man who doesnt look british. He looks more asian but his features arent like any normal asian at all. His sharp jaw, pointed nose and fair skin looks like he's from a mixed race.
"What do you think? That was a nice quote isnt it? It sure does bare some truth to it"
The man smiled as he leans on the railing and looks at the river too."Sorry, are you talking to me?"
Nunew asked after looking around making sure that he's the one the man is talking to."If the quote applies to you then yes I am, If its not then Im talking to myself"
He chuckled, still not facing Nunew.Nunew sighed as he lets go of the railing.
"But even bridges lose their lights and burn"
Nunew tells him"True. But another quote says to burn the bridges that lead back to your old way of living"
The man nodded as he speaks.Nunew stayed silent for a bit. It seems that the random conversation with a stranger is getting to him.
"Bridges are supposed to be like the turning point in someone's life. It may serve as a connection between your past and present, but not one person will be the same when they pass their own bridge."
The man continued to say.
