Heart's Remedy

2: Family

Nunew was about to finish for the day. He hung some posters up the walls and was planning to paint a section of the room so he would need to go to the maintenance room tomorrow to get some paint. Yim was helping him tidy up while they chat.

"Nunew, Im curious about something"
Yim said

"What would that be?"
Nunew continued to pick up the papers on the floor.

"You're loaded. Your family is famous and rich. Why are you renting a flat? You couldve had a whole building under your name and be in a big university instead of here."
Yim told Nunew.

Nunew stood up and looked at Yim.

"Because i said to myself that I would create a new life for me. So im trying to rely on my own abilities and not on my family's connections and power."
Nunew said to Yim

"I mean It's not that Im turning my back on what I have and what my family is giving me. I still use my card. But im mostly just just standing up on my own two feet"
Nunew explained.

"Hats off to you my friend. I wouldnt know what to do if I lose my car or cant shop anymore"
Yim dusted his trousers as they finish cleaning up.

"For somebody who has a degree in Maths, you sure dont compute your expenses"
Nunew chuckled

"I just love to be fab. Can you blame me?"
Yim flipped his imaginary hair.

Nunew laughs at the antics of his friend

"But on a serious note, when are you telling your family that you're back? You know how protective your brothers are. They will flip when they discover that you're here but not told them"
Yim said to Nunew.

"Im actually planning to go home today. According to the family GC, the two of them will be home with my parents for dinner later"
Nunew smiled as he fixes his desk.

"Do you need a ride? I can drop you off"
Yim picked his bag up.

"Yes please, if you dont mind"
Nunew said as he picks up his bag too

They then heard Mark shout at the corridor.

"Lizzie! Your dad's here!"
Mark's voice echoed on the hallway. It was then followed by the sound of running footsteps.

"I guess the doc is here"
Yim said as he peeks at the window.

"Lizzie's dad is a doctor?"
Nunew asked. He opened the door and waited for Yim to step out

"Yeah. One of the best pediatric surgeons. That's why there are times where P'Mark waits with her or somebody else picks her up, sometimes he would get caught in a surgery or be called in for an emergency"
Yim explained.

Nunew turned off the lights and closed the door.

"What about her mom?"
Nunew asked as they along the hallway of the school

"Im not sure. All I know is that she's an FA and we rarely really see her"
Yim said. He puts his hands in his pockets.

"Doesnt Lizzie get lonely?"
Nunew curiously asked

"Lizzie is a very smart kid. She understands the situation. Her dad always have the friday afternoon and weekends off. The hospital will only call him if its really a serious emergency. Plus she gets spoiled by her uncles and her dad's friends"
Yim explained

"And where did you get these information from?"
Nunew eyes Yim

"From P'Mark. You know how I like to be nosy sometimes"
Yim grinned as they reach the door of the school.

Nunew saw a tall man's back as he enters the driver's side of the car. He watched as the white porsche cayenne with tinted windows flashed his lights and drove off with Mark waving good bye.
