As I searched for my class, a voice from the side yelled out, "Incoming!"
I looked up just in time to see a shoe flying towards my face. With a blank expression and slight annoyance, I dodged it.
I noticed someone in front of me. It was the same girl whom I had bumped into earlier, and who had almost been hit as well.
"Ah, sorry!" someone yelled, apologizing.
I glared at the group while they continued to mess around. I assumed they were on a sports team. I could tell they were in the baseball team based on their jackets.
I noticed the twins I had seen while walking on the sidewalk on the way to school were in the group, but the female twin didn't have a jacket.
I see her with her phone out, laughing and filming her twin brother being carried by one of his baseball teammates.
"We were just goofing off," his teammate chuckled, while the male twin he was carrying demanded to be put down.
I looked down at the girl with long, orange braided hair, who was also watching the chaos but something about her caught my eye-a star on her sleeve.
It made me want to ask where she bought it. I hesitated a moment, not used to approaching people, but then decided to go for it.
I tapped her shoulder from behind, making her turn to face me. "Hey again, I just wanted to ask where you got that shirt. It looks nice," I said softly, trying to sound friendly even though I did not like interactions much.
She looked down at her shirt, then back at me. "It was my mother's. She gave it to me, so I'm not really sure where she bought-" She then was cut off by a yell from the group.
"HEY! Watch where you're going!"
"Wanna fight?!"
The situation escalated quickly, and I pulled her back by her shirt to prevent her from getting involved in the brawl.
I sighed in annoyance and my eye twitched. Chaos on the first day of school was not what I had hoped for.
"Welcome to high school, everyone" we both thought.
TIME SKIP
We walked together, trying to find our class but I kept my distance. I knew she was a type of person who prefers being alone but I had to follow her from far behind to our class.I had already spotted it in the distance and nodded to confirm. I passed her to enter the classroom first while she checked her schedule, but I froze at a yelp.
Turning around, I saw a guy in a blue turtleneck with glasses, rubbing his thumb where he had a paper cut.
I noticed the paper floating down and was about to pick it up when the girl with the long braid beat me to it.
I glanced at the guy, seeing him shyly thank her.
"Oh um, thank you," he said.
He smiled, looking as cute as a puppy, but I quickly shook off the thought and headed into the classroom, opening the door.
Inside, I saw that seats were already assigned, something new for me on the first day of school. We usually sat wherever we wanted.
Apparently not here. I looked around until I found my seat in the very back corner.
Smiling with relief, I settled in. I liked being in the back. Resting my head on the table, I closed my eyes and listened to music.
The classroom filled up quickly. I turned to see that most of the seats were now occupied. I glanced towards the door at a sudden yell "We wouldn't be late if you had helped instead of recording!"
It was the twins again, rushing in.
"Sorry we're late!" the male twin exclaimed.
"Please don't mark us tardy!" the female twin added.
I chuckled to myself. "Oh, these two... Third time I've seen them."
Breathless, they continued talking to each other.
"They aren't here yet," the male twin said, hand on the door.
"We still have a chance!" the female twin held onto the door frame.
I glanced behind them and snigger as I saw their reaction to the voice behind them.
"A chance?"
