With each cautious step, Mai and Aki navigated the chaotic remnants of what was once their familiar school. The unnerving silence intensified, causing fear to rapidly spread through their chests. A distant scream echoed through the hallways, making them flinch in thier places and holding tightly to each other.
"what the hell is happening here?" Aki said with a hint of nervousness and anxious anger, her eyes scanning the place before they started walking again.
"I don't know that's scary" Mai said with a low voice yet her voice was shaky.
A sudden, loud crash from a nearby classroom made them both jump. They pressed themselves against the wall, holding their breath as they listened intently. The noise had come from the direction of the science lab, a place they usually associated with harmless experiments and curious students. Now, the lab felt like a potential deathtrap. The familiar rows of lab benches, usually cluttered with beakers and scientific instruments, were now eerily deserted. Broken glass and scattered equipment littered the floor, and the faint smell of chemicals hung in the air, adding to the sense of danger. The once bright and bustling space, filled with the chatter of eager minds, had transformed into a scene of desolation and fear.
"Do you think we should check it out?" Mai whispered, her voice barely audible.
Aki hesitated, then nodded. "We need to know what's going on. Maybe we can find someone who can help us."
They slowly approached the lab, peering through the small window in the door. Inside, they saw a scene of chaos: broken glass, toppled chairs, and a figure hunched over one of the desks, rummaging through a backpack.
"Is that... Ms.Natalie ?" Mai asked, recognizing their usually composed science teacher. But something was off. The way Ms.Natalie moved was jerky and unnatural.
"She seems... so wired," Aki observed, trying to discern what was wrong with their teacher, whose back was turned towards them.
As they watched, Ms. Natalie suddenly turned her face towards the window, causing Mai and Aki to gasp in horror. Her features were twisted and contorted, her eyes vacant yet piercing, with a pallid complexion and an unsettling grimace on her face. Her clothes were torn and stained, and there was a trickle of blood running down her cheek. It was a sight that froze their blood and made their hearts race. Before they could react, Ms. Natalie noticed them staring at her.
With a sudden, unnatural agility, she turned fully towards them, her eyes widening as if recognizing them but with a chilling hunger in her gaze. Mai and Aki screamed involuntarily, their fear palpable as they backed away from the window.Aki grabbed Mai's arm and pulled her forcefully away from the lab door, their panicked footsteps echoing down the corridor. Behind them, they could hear Ms. Natalie emitting a guttural moan, followed by the sound of hurried footsteps. The once-familiar halls of their school now felt like a labyrinth of terror, with their only thought being to escape the relentless pursuit of their transformed teacher.
As they dashed back towards the lunch hall, fear propelled Mai and Aki through the dim corridors, their footsteps echoing off the walls. With adrenaline coursing through their veins, they finally reached the hall's entrance. Aki swiftly pulled the heavy door shut behind them, the latch clicking into place with a resounding finality. Mai rushed to her side, and together they pushed several tables from nearby classrooms against the door, creating a makeshift barrier to reinforce their refuge.
Breathing heavily, they retreated to the far end of the hall, their backs against the opposite wall where another door leading to their classrooms stood ominously closed. The relentless thuds and bangs reverberated through the lunch hall, vibrations signaling Ms. Natalie's frenzied attempts to force her way inside.
"We can't stay here" Mai whispered, her eyes wide with terror as she glanced back at the closed door leading to their classrooms.
Aki scanned the hall frantically, searching for any possible escape route. "There must be another way out."
Mai's eyes scanned the desperate scene unfolding around them. In the chaos, her gaze fell upon the kitchen area adjacent to the lunch hall. Suddenly, a glimmer of hope sparked within her."The kitchen! There has to be an exit there," Mai exclaimed breathlessly, her voice echoing with a mix of fear and determination. "Workers use it for deliveries and storage. There might be another way out."
Aki turned to look at Mai, her eyes reflecting a flicker of hope amidst the terror that gripped them both.As she nodded agreeing with mai faint smile touched Aki's lips ,a small but significant expression of relief amidst their dire circumstances.
"of course my smart mai" Aki said as she grab mai's hand gently interwining thier fingers "let's check out".
