For the past two hours, they had been sitting in the classroom, hiding from the zombies running amok outside.“They've sealed off all the areas where the virus has spread,” Mai said, checking the news on her phone.
“We can’t stay here forever. We need to find a way out,” Aki said, leaning her head on Mai’s shoulder.
“How?!!! The school is swarming with zombies” Holly exclaimed, her voice tinged with anxiety.
Aki shrugged. “I don’t know, Holly, but there must be an emergency exit somewhere.”
“Yeah, but unfortunately, we don’t have the school’s floor plan” Mai replied, glancing at Aki.
“Then we’ll have to find it ourselves” Aki muttered with determination. She stood up, brushing the dust off her clothes, and extended her hand to Mai. “Come on” she said, wrapping an arm around Mai's slender waist.
A warm smile played on Mai's lips as she shoved Aki a glance. "Rumors?" she whispered, a hint of warning in her voice.
Aki rolled her eyes. "Mai, I don't give a fuck about rumors. Plus, they’re busy freaking out," she said with a smirk, giving Mai’s waist a light squeeze.
But their little chat was cut off by the previous crying girl.
“YOU’RE INSANE! YOU’RE GOING TO GET US ALL KILLED! THEY’RE MONSTERS!” the girl screamed, her face contorted with fear.
Both Mai and Aki rolled their eyes before exchanging a quick glance, a silent understanding passing between them.
“At least we're not going to rot here in fear,” Aki said sarcastically.
“ Bitch…” Mai muttered under her breath, causing Aki to chuckle.
With the decision made, the four girls, along with some of their classmates, began looking around the classroom for anything useful. They needed something to defend themselves or tools that could aid their escape.
Aki scanned the room, her eyes settling on a fire extinguisher mounted on the wall. She motioned to it and said, “That could come in handy. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.”
Mai nodded and grabbed the fire extinguisher, testing its weight in her hands. “Alright, let’s see what else we can find” she said, her voice steady despite the tension in the air.
Preal rummaged through a drawer and pulled out a pair of heavy-duty scissors. “These could work as a weapon” she suggested, sliding it into her pocket.
Meanwhile, another classmate unearthed a metal rod from behind the teacher’s desk.
"This should help too" she said, offering it to Aki.
"Thanks" Aki said, taking the rod and giving it a few practice swings before turning to Mai.
"Mai, keep that with you," she said, handing over the rod. "I have the knife."
Mai accepted the rod with a determined nod.
As they armed themselves, the sound of shuffling feet and low growls echoed through the hallway outside the classroom. The reality of their situation weighed heavily on them.
"We need a plan" Mai said, her voice a calm contrast to the fear that gripped the room. "Firstly, we need to find the emergency exit. We stay together and move quickly"
"No one goes off alone."aki added.
The group nodded in agreement, their resolve hardening.Aki took a deep breath and opened the classroom door a crack, peering into the hallway. “It’s clear for now,” she whispered.
“Let’s go.”They slipped out of the classroom one by one, their makeshift weapons at the ready.
The school was eerily silent, the usual bustling atmosphere replaced by an oppressive quiet. As they navigated the darkened corridors, they kept their eyes and ears peeled for any signs of movement. Every creak and distant sound set their nerves on edge.
