Mai and Aki’s disguises worked, allowing them to navigate through the halls without alerting the zombies.
However, their luck ran out when they reached the third floor. They were currently running between classes' corridors when a massive horde of zombies began closing in from every direction, bouncing towards them from every class.
Panic set in, but they fought to stay calm. "We need to keep moving!" Aki shouted, her voice strained but determined.
They pushed forward, slashing and stabbing at any zombies that came too close using the fire extinguisher, the scissors and metal rod, which regardless that it is not ideal weapons but it proved effective in their desperate situation.
Mai swung her metal rod, bashing a zombie that had emerged from a nearby classroom, its skull caving in with a sickening crunch.
"Mai,behind you!"Aki's scream pierced through the chaos when another one lunged at her from a classroom doorway.
Mai turned just in time to see a zombie reaching for her,She barely had time to react, and her heart raced as she struggled to fend it off. Aki rushed forward, her knife flashing as she plunged it into the zombie’s throat, twisting the blade before yanking it out.
Aki turned to Mai, concern etched across her features. "Mai, are you okay?" she asked, her eyes betraying a deep fear. Just moments before, she had felt her heart drop.
"Thanks,Aki" Mai gasped, adrenaline pumping through her veins."Oh my god, I thought I was dead" she replied, grateful for Aki's presence while trying to lighten the mood with a touch of drama.
"You're not, you idiot" Aki responded playfully, though she couldn't hide her worry. "Stay close to me, please"
Mai nodded, holding Aki's hand, squeezing it reassuringly.
They fought their way through the throngs of undead, their makeshift weapons cutting a path through the chaos.
"There's an exit at the end of the corridor!" Pearl shouted, pointing towards a heavy door.
"Shit, it's locked!" she exclaimed, tugging at the handle.
Zombies were closing in from all sides, their moans growing louder and more frenzied. Yuli pointed to a piece of brick lying on the ground. "We can use that to break the lock!"
Without hesitation, Aki grabbed the brick and began smashing it against the lock. The lock finally gave way with a loud crack, and they burst through the door.
"Hurry, inside!" Mai urged, waving everyone through. As the last of their group rushed inside, Aki and Mai quickly grabbed some metal chairs that were stacked near the stairs. They used the chairs to barricade the door, pushing with all their might to create a makeshift barrier against the oncoming horde.
They sat on the ground, catching their breath. "Finally, you've made something useful after getting us into trouble," Mai said sarcastically to Yuli.
"What? Me? You're the one who came up with those terrible ideas," Yuli retorted.
Before Mai could respond, Aki interrupted yelling at yuki "Shut up I don't want to hear another word from you, this whole mess is because of you," she said sternly.
FLASHBACK
Mai and Aki returned to the bathroom with a newfound sense of hope, that the plan had worked, and now they needed to help the others do the same. When they entered, everyone looked up expectantly.
Mai quickly explained."It worked. They didn’t attack us. We’re going to get out of here, but we all need to do this."
Holly’s eyes widened in surprise, while Pearl gave a relieved smile. However, Yuli's expression twisted in disgust."There is no way I’m putting that... that filth on me!"Yuli exclaimed, backing away from the group.
Aki stepped forward, her eyes narrowing."We don't have time for your whining,Yuli"
The group slowly made their way out of the bathroom and into the hallway. The smell of decay was overwhelming, but they pressed on. As they descended from the fourth floor to the third floor, everything seemed to be going smoothly until they reached a particularly crowded section of the third floor. A zombie approached Yuli, sniffing her cautiously. Yuli’s eyes widened in terror, and before anyone could stop her, she let out a blood-curdling scream. The scream echoed through the corridor, drawing the attention of every nearby zombie. They turned their vacant, hungry eyes towards the group.
“Run!” Mai shouted, gripping Aki’s hand as they bolted down the hallway. The others followed suit, their makeshift disguises now useless.
END FLASHBACK
As they engaged in a heated argument, Holly interjected humorously, "Hey guys, hate to interrupt your debate, but I really need to use the bathroom."
Mai, Aki, and Pearl chuckled at their friend's impeccable timing.
"Seriously, Holly?" Mai quipped, raising an eyebrow in jest.
"You always pick the most interesting moments," Pearl added, shaking her head with a playful smile.
Holly shrugged good-naturedly. "You know, bladder issues" she joked, joining in the laughter that followed.
"Yeah yeah, your bladder issues as always" Aki teased, joining in the laughter as well.
"Anyway, I suppose these stairs lead to the storage area, there might be a bathroom there as well. Plus, it's already getting dark," Aki suggested.
"Yeah, we need a secure place to stay until morning," Mai agreed.
