Mai and Aki walked together to the kitchen, their hands locked tightly.
"Hey, mister, we need he-" Mai started to say, but was cut off as the man turned around and lunged at them. His face was pale and twisted with rage, and a deep bite mark was visible on his arm.
Mai pulled Aki quickly, and they ran. Trapped in the kitchen with the zombie, Aki released Mai's hand, grabbed a small chair, and hurled it at the advancing walker.
Mai stood stunned, barely able to find her voice. "Woah... that's... woah."
Aki suddenly grabbed a knife from the kitchen table.
"Sometimes I fear being near you," Mai said, trying to lighten the tension with a joke.
"Hey! We need it," Aki defended herself, gripping the knife firmly. "Let's just hope we don't have to use it."
"Well, I don't think so," Mai said, pointing at the zombie that Aki had just thrown a chair at.
"How did he manage to stand up? Last time I checked, zombies weren't supposed to be smart," Aki remarked, standing beside Mai and watching the zombie approach.
"Have you ever watched The Walking Dead?" Mai chuckled.
Without a word, Aki stepped forward and pierced the zombie's head with the knife.
"That was surprisingly aggressive of you, dear," Mai said, clearly impressed.
"Do you think you would kill me like that if I turned into a zombie?" Mai asked with a smile, trailing behind Aki who was checking for any way out.
"Please, Mai, stop with your nonsense. You're not going to get bitten," Aki replied, sighing and shaking her head.
"I'm just asking," Mai shrugged, glancing around.
"Aki, there's an air vent," Mai said, pointing to the vent in the wall.
"Great..." Aki smiled, quickly grabbing a chair and placing it under the vent to reach it. "Come on, Mai, you go first."
"What? No, you go first," Mai insisted, crossing her arms and shaking her head.
They always argued over things like this.
"Mai, please, we don't have time for this," Aki said, pinching the bridge of her nose and sighing.
After a brief argument, Mai reluctantly agreed to go first. As soon as she entered the vent, she let out a scream, prompting Aki to pull her out quickly.
"What is it? Are you okay?" Aki asked, her heart sinking with concern.
"There's a lizard inside," Mai said, her breath shaky.
"A lizard? You drive me insane" Aki replied, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes, which made Mai chuckle softly.
Aki then decided to enter the vent herself.
"There's nothing in here," Aki said as she crawled inside.
"I know," Mai chuckled, following her into the vent.
Mai had just wanted Aki to go first.
"Where do you think this vent will lead us?" Mai asked.
"I don't know. We'll find out soon. Hopefully, it's somewhere near the school exit," Aki replied.
They both continued to crawl through the vent, their movements careful and deliberate.
The vent led both Mai and Aki to a classroom on the fifth floor.
Mai and Aki emerged from the vent into their classroom, where some of their classmates remained alive but visibly panicked.
"They're still alive," Mai muttered, rolling her eyes.
"They won't last long," Aki remarked with a smirk, glancing at Mai.
The two girls stood up and brushed off their clothes. Pearl and Holly, their other two best friends, approached them with concern.
"Where were you both during all of this?" Pearl asked, arms crossed.
Holly, clearly distressed, exclaimed, "We're going to die here!"
"Stay calm, Holly. We're here with you," Mai said reassuringly.
Mai leaned closer to Aki, speaking in a hushed tone.
"If we ever get stuck, there are people we could sacrifice," Mai whispered, smirking as she subtly pointed towards the students they didn't particularly like in the class.
Aki chuckled sarcastically in response to Mai's suggestion.
As the whole class approached them, expressing distress with some even crying, Aki leaned towards Mai, her brow furrowed in confusion.
"They're making it seem like we're taking this apocalypse as a joke," Aki whispered, casting a concerned glance at a girl who was crying.
"Yeah, let's not bother comforting her, or I might consider sacrificing you instead," Mai replied in a hushed tone. She kept her hands in her pockets, staring stoically at the girl she wasn't particularly fond of.
Aki smirked and leaned closer to Mai, whispering teasingly, "Someone's jealous?"
Mai blushed slightly and muttered back, "What? No... And don't lean so close; we don't need more rumors spreading."
"You know you like it," Aki replied with a playful smirk, pulling away slightly before turning her attention to the class, where they were comforting the upset girl.
"Whatever,let's just focus on surviving"
Mai spoke and sighed.....
