Macaque's pov
I was walking among the crowd. Despite the late hour - it was five in the morning - there were quite a lot of people in the market square. I spotted a stall selling fruit and vegetables and, seeing that the seller was talking to a customer, I quickly walked past and took an apple. I quickly took one leap forward while the pile of apples fell to the ground and I heard the seller's angry scream. I took a bite of the apple and sprinted away. I pushed through people and more and more people had their eyes on me. I passed various stalls until I finally reached the end of the market. I turned onto another street, looking back. I continued to hear various shouting and insults when suddenly I accidentally bump into someone. I moved away slightly and looked to see who it was. It was the local city guard, so to speak. I laughed nervously and said good morning to them. Suddenly, the staller whose apple I had stolen jumped out from around the corner and shouted to the guards to catch me. I quickly passed them and rushed to the front. They chased me and I must admit that they are faster than I thought.
It wasn't long before I found a dark alley. I quickly ran towards it and entered the shadow. I saw the police enter the alley and look around in surprise, looking for me. They split up and one half went to the roof and the other half left the alley to search in the street. I smiled broadly and climbed the wall out of the alley and out of the shadows. My plan worked perfectly. They will now be looking for me all over the city and I will be able to do what I came here for without any problems. I took another bite of the apple and walked a few blocks forward. Finally, I found myself next to the entrance to one milk bar that was already closed. I took off my cape, which I used to cover some of my head, because I was wanted practically all over the world - and not only this world - and actually it was a big risk for me to appear in the city at all. Especially since they put a bounty on my head, 15000000 Renminbi. But I don't care much because today everything was going to change.
I walked calmly to the kitchen door, brushing against the small bushes scattered across the floor. The very old kitchen was apparently the result of a major fire. There were vines hanging from the ceiling everywhere, and the kitchen equipment was already covered with moss, as were some of the walls. Suddenly my nose was runny and I sneezed heavily, this place was so old that one sneeze was enough to create a cloud of dust in the air. I coughed into my shoulder and walked faster to the pantry. It was even worse there. Just as earlier there was even more plaster on the walls, here the entire building was visible and the concrete floor was completely covered with moss. And on the shelves around there were crates with a few leftovers of food which, if it weren't for the hungry rodents, would have turned this room into another biological bomb. I saw a light switch torn from the wall. I pushed it against the wall - which must have been through more than me - and clicked it. A slightly broken light bulb, hanging from the ceiling on a cable, flashed above my head and sparks flew from it, including a couple directly at me. I hissed in pain, but fortunately the pain was hard but very short. However, my pain was worth this - although small and pale - light.
And through the light, the insects living here came to life and immediately flew into the light. Ignoring them, I knelt on the ground and gently touched the moss with my hand. But it was soft... too soft... I rolled up my trouser leg and took out the scalpel from my shoe that I always carry just in case. I moved the scalpel over the moss and into the incision, gently inserted my fingers and, after grabbing the material, pulled it towards me. As it turned out, my guesses were correct. The moss wasn't real at all. I tore off most of the material and underneath it revealed a stone slab with carved patterns. I saw that there was room for a gear in the middle. I smiled, knowing I had come to the right place and pulled out a gold gear from my pocket with small crystals inside and an image of the sun and moon engraved on it. I gently moved the gear into the hole and, as if some magnetic force was acting between them, the gear broke out of my hands and moved into place on its own.
