A Breath of Fresh Air
Jungkook stepped into the Jeon mansion, his eyes scanning the room for Hewoon's familiar scowl. But to his surprise, she was nowhere to be found. He let out a sigh of relief, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders.
"Grandma, where's Hewoon?" he asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
Grandma Jeon's expression turned serious. "Your grandpa took her with him forcefully. She wasn't happy about it, but he insisted."
Jungkook's eyes widened in surprise. "Thank God," he muttered under his breath.
Grandma Jeon chuckled. "Now, come have breakfast. You must be starving."
Hoseok rubbed his hands together. "Yes, I'm hungry. But I have to admit, I was feeling a little awkward eating at Taehyung's place."
Jungkook raised an eyebrow. "Awkward? What do you mean?"
Hoseok hesitated. "Well, you know how we always go with Father to those business dinners and lunches? And sometimes breakfast meetings too?"
Jungkook nodded. "Yeah, what about it?"
Hoseok shrugged. "It's just that, with Taehyung and his family, it was different. It was like... a real family meal. Not some formal, stuffy business thing. And I didn't know how to act."
Jungkook smiled. "You mean you're not used to eating with people who actually care about you?"
Hoseok laughed. "Yeah, something like that."
Grandma Jeon's eyes filled with understanding. "I see. Well, dear, you're welcome to eat with us anytime you want. We may not be a traditional family, but we care about each other. And that's what matters."
As they sat down to eat, Jungkook couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over him. Hewoon was gone, and he was surrounded by people who cared about him. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he could finally breathe again.
The breakfast table was filled with laughter and conversation, a stark contrast to the tense, formal meals he was used to. Jungkook and Hoseok exchanged stories, and Grandma Jeon listened with a warm smile.
As they finished up, Jungkook pushed his chair back. "Thanks, Grandma. That was amazing."
Grandma Jeon patted his hand. "Anytime, dear. You're always welcome here."
Hoseok nodded in agreement. "Yeah, thanks, Grandma. This was really nice."
Jungkook grinned. "Yeah, no formalities, no business talk. Just family."
Grandma Jeon's eyes twinkled. "That's what family is all about, dear. Love, support, and a whole lot of laughter."
And in that moment, Jungkook knew that he had found a sense of belonging, a sense of family that he never knew he had. And with Hewoon gone, he could finally start to heal, to find himself again.
A Family Secret Revealed
Jungkook's eyes widened in surprise. "Grandma, why is Grandpa so attached to Tae?"
Grandma Jeon's expression turned solemn, her eyes gazing into the past. "Yes, there's a reason. When your father moved to Seoul, he would sometimes visit us in Busan. But after Yoongi was born, he stopped coming."
Hoseok's eyes narrowed, curiosity getting the better of him. "Why did he stop visiting, Grandma?"
Grandma Jeon sighed, her shoulders sagging under the weight of memories. "Your father, Minho, asked us to move to Seoul with him, but your grandpa loved this place too much. He had roots here, friends, and a life he built. He couldn't just leave it all behind."
Jungkook's mind raced, trying to understand. "But what about us, Grandma? Didn't he want to be with us?"
Grandma Jeon's eyes filled with tears, her voice cracking. "Of course, he did, dear. But your father... he's a complicated man. He has his own demons to fight. And after Yoongi was born, he became distant. He would still visit Seoul to see you and Yoongi, but he felt lonely here. He felt like he was losing himself in the city, in his work."
Hoseok's eyes widened in shock. "Grandma, I had no idea."
Grandma Jeon nodded, her eyes still brimming with tears. "I know, dear. It's not something we talk about often. But your grandpa... he's a good man. He loves you all so much. And when Tae came into our lives... well, that's a whole different story."
Jungkook leaned in, his curiosity piqued. "What happened, Grandma?"
Grandma Jeon took a deep breath, her voice steady. "Tae's mom died during childbirth, and his father couldn't handle it. He passed away the same day. We went to the funeral, and your grandpa saw little Tae... his heart melted. Namjoon was only 11, and Jimin was 5; they couldn't take care of Tae, so your grandpa and I started taking care of him."
Hoseok's eyes widened in shock. "That's why Grandpa loves Tae so much!"
Grandma Jeon nodded, a small smile on her face. "Yes, dear. Your grandpa became Tae, Namjoon, and Jimin's legal guardian. He raised them as his own, and they brought so much joy to our lives."
Jungkook's mind raced, trying to process everything. He had never known about Tae's past, about the tragedy that had befallen his family. He felt a pang of guilt, realizing how selfish he had been, how blinded by his own problems.
Grandma Jeon's eyes locked onto his, her gaze piercing. "That's why your grandpa wants to see Tae happy, Jungkook. He wants to see him settled, with someone who loves him for who he is. And he thought that someone was you."
Hoseok's eyes widened in shock. "Grandma, you mean... Grandpa wanted Jungkook and Tae to get married?"
Grandma Jeon nodded, her eyes filled with a deep sadness. "Yes, dear. But your father announced your engagement, and... well, you know the rest."
Jungkook felt like he had been punched in the gut, his breath knocked out of him. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, couldn't believe that his grandpa had wanted him to marry Tae all along.
But as he looked at Grandma Jeon, he saw the sincerity in her eyes, the love and the pain. And he knew that she was telling the truth, that his grandpa had only wanted what was best for him, for Tae, and for their family.
And in that moment, Jungkook felt a weight lift off his shoulders, a weight he had been carrying for so long. He felt free, free to make his own choices, free to follow his heart.
And he knew that he would always be grateful to his grandma, for telling him the truth, for setting him free.
