"Congratulations students, or should I say graduates!" Happily announced our principal. Once he pronounced these words, my whole senior class took of their caps and threw them in the air, shouting in happiness. Everyone was laughing and hugging their friends, and my hands could almost grasp the pleasure that was floating all through the air because of the students' excitement of finally leaving High School. I wasn't one to talk, since I was feeling pretty happy myself.
I put that energy to use when my best friend came crashing towards me like a thousand gallons of water, hugging me like there was no tomorrow. Once I found my balance again I hugged her back, patting her back. After all, she was my best friend and the sister I have always wanted.
"Oh gods, Diana, that was great!" Amber said once we let go of the hug. "Thanks." I returned. "You know me, I aim for the best."
We both stayed there talking about the ceremony when suddenly someone put their arm around my shoulder. I looked up and saw my other best friend Matthew. He was a rather tall guy, but as muscular as an 11 year old.
"Finally, we can stay away from this hell hole for good!" He shouted so loud that a couple of parents with children at their side gave us dirty looks. I laughed at his statement and shoved him a little to the side.
"Could you shut that big mouth of yours for a second, Matt?" I said giggling. But at the sight of his sightly frowning face I felt bad and continued, "but hey, we graduated so who cares, right?"
That earned a smile from him. I smiled back and hugged his lithe figure, congratulating him.
"Hey Paradizo, stop hugging the guy and come here to hug the most magnificent person in this school!" Shouted a voice that sounded very familiar. When I let go, I was greeted by two wonderful sights, a blushing Matthew and my other friend Leila. I laughed at both of these situation and went there to hug her.
"Oh Leila, how I'm going to miss you when you head out to college in a week." I told a grinning Leila. You see, Leila is like an incredible dancer, so naturally she got an early acceptance at the NYU preforming arts program. She was of course thrilled by this, but a tad sad since she had to leave a little earlier than the rest of us.
"Oh don't remind me." Replied Leila. She hugged me once again and, soon enough, we were joined by Matthew and Amber. While we did our little group hug, an oh so pleasent voice spoke to us from a few feet away, which made us break the hug.
"Oh look, its the Happy Tree Friends! Care if I join the party?" Spoke devil incarnated himself, Drew Thompson. You know that person that you befriended when you were a new student in first grade, scared and alone? Well to me, that person was Drew. Anyways, the whole friendship thing lasted for about a week when I realized that he was as mean as it could get. But, much to my dismay, our mothers met in that short amount of time and became the best friends of all time. And from that moment on, it was sharing a chicken casserole with him on all of my mom's birthdays.
"Sure, I would love to see all of your blood splattered on the ground, along with your large intestine. Mind if I take a picture? It will make a great screensaver." I snapped back at him.
Almost instantly, a smirk made its way to his face. It was the kind of smirk that made other girls swoon, but for me it had the same effect as a bug repellent. You see, when you spend most of your time on family gatherings with a guy that bought the worst out of you, you just wanted to punch him in the face every time you saw him, no matter how handsome.
"Oh honey, you might think that since we graduated we don't have to see each other anymore, but trust me, I'm far from gone yet." He replied with the same smug smirk. And just like that, he left.
------------------------------------------------------------
After that very pleasent encounter with Drew, we went to a little gathering of Amber's family and mine. A couple of hours into the party, my mother took her glass of champagne and sofly clicked it with her spoon.
"Everyone, everyone! Gather around!" She announced. "I have an exciting anouncenent to make. As you all know, Diana's birthday is coming up, and with her tremendous accomplishment of being accepted in Harvard, I decided to reward her with a special treat. Honey, I planned a trip to Miami, the place you' ve always wanted to visit!"
When she finished talking, our families gave a shall cheer, and Amber quickly hugged me. Everyone congragulated me, but I only listned to half of it, my mother's words still ringing in my mind. I couldn' t believe it! I had to start planning my trip to one of the best cities in the world.
