Elena's point of view
I was sitting in the living room of my parent's house, sipping on a cup of tea and chatting with my mother. The day had been uneventful, and I was grateful for the simplicity of it. My parents' love always had a way of grounding me, reminding me of who I was beneath all the chaos.
Robert and Emma had come over for dinner. As much as I tried to avoid these family gatherings, there were times when it was simply unavoidable. Seeing Robert with Emma always stirred up a whirlwind of emotions, but I had to maintain my composure, especially now that we're seeing each other and I don't want anyone to since anything about us.
Just as I was getting lost in the conversation with my mother, the doorbell rang. My father got up to answer it, and moments later, John walked into the room with a bright smile on his face. I was surprised to see him but pleased nonetheless.
"John, what are you doing here?" I asked, getting up to greet him.
He smiled warmly at me, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
I still see him from time to time. Honestly, he is the one that wants us to meet every weekend.
"I wanted to surprise you, Elena. I hope you don't mind."
"Of course not," I replied, glancing around the room.
My parents looked delighted to see him, while Emma had a look of surprise on her face. Robert, on the other hand, had an expression I couldn't quite read—though I knew him well enough to see the tension in his jaw.
“Please, join us, my dear.” My mom smiled warmly at him.
As he took a seat beside me, I couldn't ignore Robert's hot gaze on me his tense mood overwhelmed me. I tried to engage in conversation with John but my nd keep drafting back to Robert.
When the evening finally came to an end, I walked John to the door.
He gave me a gentle kiss on the cheek before leaving, promising to give me as much time as I needed to think about our relationship in the hope that I'll be ready soon.
As I closed the door behind him, I leaned against it, feeling the weight of the evening settle over me. I was caught in a complicated web of emotions, unsure of how to navigate my way.
Suddenly, I felt a presence behind me. Turning, I found myself face-to-face with Robert. His expression was serious, his eyes searching mine.
"We need to talk." He said quietly.
I nodded, feeling a sense of dread and anticipation. We moved to a quiet corner of the house, the kitchen away from the prying eyes of my family.
"What's going on, Robert?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I can't believe you didn't break things off with John," He said, his voice raw with anger. "Seeing him around you like that... it was unbearable."
"I didn't expect him to come over, Robert," I said, my voice trembling.
His eyes flashed with frustration. "How can you be with him when we're... when we're involved like this?”
"I don't know what to do," I said, tears spilling down my cheeks. "I care about John, and I don't want to lose him as a friend. He knows that I don't have any feelings towards him. My heart... my heart is still with you.”
He reached out, wiping away my tears with his thumb. "You need to make a choice, Elena. This can't go on. Either end things with John and be with me, or... or we need to stop this. I don't care that you see him as a friend, he looks at you like he wants to fuck you.” His jaw clenched.
