🎶🎵Caleb
"Dude, this place is sweet. Great hookup." Troy smiled, patting me on the back.
Leave it up to Sarah to rent out the whole rooftop patio to throw a party to hopefully lure Nathanial here. We aren't sure if it'll work since he said he had to think about it but it was worth a shot. No going back now.
"Yeah, man. Should be a great show." I smiled. We got the whole crew back here to show out. Jason was setting up behind us on the drums while Richard was playing through some notes on his keys. I nodded to my bandmates who were all setting up. We liked to get together sometimes to play inside Richards house that he rents but since he got engaged to Christina who is a law major, we can't play that much at his place anymore.
It was a full audience. Sarah clearly invited all of her college friends who invited some of theirs. There was even a few people from our high school. She really went all out to make it an actual party. I had to hand it to her. She may be my ex but she's a really really great friend.
I looked around as I was fixing the strap on my guitar over my shoulder. No sign of him.
"Relax dude, he's coming." Troy said patting me on the shoulder. I looked at him and gave him a small smile. I was thankful that Troy took the news of me being bisexual and being in love with a guy (not just a guy but, Nathanial) easy on me.
Did he stare at me blankly for fourty-five minutes, not speaking a word? Yeah. But hey, at least that's better than the gut-punching laugh and butt jokes I thought I was going to get. He's still my buddy, simple as that. And that's pretty cool.
"Hey!" Sarahs voice broke through the crowd and the noise in my head. I whipped my head to look at her. She ran over to me dressed in a short black dress with pink flower print all over them. There were little bows tied at her shoulders and her hair was pinned back with just her blonde strands falling around her face. She was so adorable and beautiful at the same time.
She wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me in close.
"Hey, beautiful." I smiled into her neck. "You look so good. If I wasn't so into your best friend, I'd be all over you."
"What a weird thing to say." She laughed stepping back. "You make it sound like a jerry springer episode." She lightly slapped my arm.
I laughed as I raked my hand through my hair, hoping it looked just right.
"You look amazing." She gave me a soft smile, lifting her hand up and pulling a few strands of my black hair in front of my eyes. "I'm sorry he isn't here. I really tried." She pouted.
My heart sank. I knew there was a possibility of him not showing but to hear it out loud really sucked.
"It's okay. Life is long, I'm sure I can just...I don't know - pick up a phone like a normal person and call him." I rolled my eyes and laughed it off.
"You're right. That would've actually been a fantastic idea." She smiled.
"Yeah, but where's the fun in that, huh?"
"Oh Caleb, you and your 'fun'." She shook her head, turning around.
Her smile faded slowly as she looked down at her black heels. "Listen, Caleb. I wanted to tell you after the party but...I can't wait. This is sort of my going away party. I've decided to move to Australia for a couple months."
I stared at her blankly. "Sarah, w-what are you-"
"You and Nathan weren't the only ones who found something out about yourselves while out in Toronto. I realized that...I don't know what I'm doing. I was stringing along two guys at the same time for four years to the point they followed me to Toronto. I'm a mess!"
"I think most people would call that person 'A Legend', actually." I huffed.
She folded her hands over her chest and sighed. "Caleb...I just...I need to figure myself out. I don't know what I want or with who. I need a change." She breathed.
I thought her words through and slowly nodded my head. "As much as that really sucks...I get it. And, I'm proud of you. You should be able to go through whatever change you need. I'll still be here for you when you get back. Hell, I'll come and visit you!"
She smiled. "You'll chase me all the way to Australia?"
"I'll always be one step behind you. You can't outrun me for long." I winked.
"Ugh, that'd be creepy if I didn't love you so much." She wrapped her arms around me again and I pulled her back in for a tight hug. I was really going to miss her but I know we both would be alright.
"Caleb, we're starting up." Troy tugged on my arm. I looked back at Sarah who gave me a little wave and a smile before walking off. I followed Troy back to where we called "the stage area".
I walked up to the standing mic and looked over the crowd. Everyone was in there one little world and it made my heart hurt. There was always a set of eyes I could count on for being all over me. I missed those green emerald eyes.
"Testing, testing." I puttered in the mic. There was a break in the noise of the crowd and everyone shifted to look at me and my band. This was what I liked. All eyes on me.
"Thanks for coming tonight to this rocking party, thrown by the beautiful, wonderful, Sarah Lockwood. Everyone give it up for Sarah!" I let my voice boom through the mic. Everyone lifted their hands to clap as they all hooted and hollered.
"I want to take this moment to thank the wonderful girl for being such a special part in all of our lives. You've taught me so many things and you've played such a huge part in making me the man that I am today." I picked up a glass of vodka sprite that I had sitting at the side and held it up in my hands.
"To Sarah." I said into the mic. Everyone did the same and chanted her name back. I met her eyes through the crowd and she gave me a beaming smile.
I tipped the glass to her before downing a good portion of it in my mouth. "Okay, now to PARTY!" I yelled into the mic. The audience started cheering again as we got started.
Starting with the wonderful song, Late Night Talking by Harry Styles.
