𝕐our birthday had finally arrived, and the sun was setting on a beautiful evening. The faint sound of the TV playing in the background filled the room, but your attention was split, curious about the noise from the kitchen. Terasu Yotsurugi, your boyfriend, had insisted on making you a fancy birthday dinner. He'd mentioned something about beef stroganoff and acqua pazza, determined to give you a memorable meal to celebrate.

Unable to resist peeking, you padded quietly into the kitchen only to be greeted by Terasu's immediate tut-tut.

"Uh-uh, not so fast," he said, a playful smirk on his face as he gently but firmly pushed you back toward the living room.

"Go back and relax. I've got this all under control."

"But-"

"Nope! Don't worry about a thing," he interrupted, smiling confidently.

"Save that pretty mouth of yours for complimenting my cooking when I'm done," he added with a wink before turning you around and nudging you toward the couch.

With a little laugh, you did as told, trusting him to take the reins- though, deep down, you had a feeling something was about to go wrong. There was something important you had tried to tell him, but he was too focused on playing the role of chef extraordinaire to listen.

Terasu hummed to himself as he went back to the kitchen, pulling out measuring cups, bowls, and utensils, laying them out in preparation. But when he opened the fridge to grab the ingredients for his carefully planned menu, he froze.

"What...?" His eyes widened, scanning the shelves again. The beef, the fish, the veggies-everything he needed for the dishes he had planned—was gone. Completely gone.

"Eh?!" Terasu exclaimed, staring at the fridge as if it had betrayed him.

"Where did the ingredients go? I just bought them!" He frantically started opening other cabinets and drawers, hoping he had somehow misplaced everything, but to no avail.

That's when you casually strolled back into the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe with an amused smile on your face.

"I tried to tell you earlier..." you said, stifling a laugh.

He turned to you, confusion and mild panic written all over his face. "What do you mean? Where's all the food?!"

"You don't remember?" you asked, arching an eyebrow.

"After the meteor crash incident, you and Kinpa cooked food for the entire town. You two were in the kitchen for hours until your arms were numb. You used up all the ingredients then."

Terasu blinked, then facepalmed, groaning in defeat.

"Ugh... I forgot. How could I forget that?"

He glanced at the clock, realizing it was already late. The shops were closed, and there was no way he could get the fancy ingredients he wanted for your special dinner. With a heavy sigh, he slumped against the counter, clearly feeling defeated. "I ruined your birthday," he muttered, looking genuinely disappointed.

You chuckled softly, walking over to him and wrapping your arms around his waist.

"You didn't ruin anything," you reassured him. "Look, there's still some stuff left in the fridge. It might not be fancy, but we can still make something fun."

Terasu looked down at you, skepticism in his eyes as you opened the fridge and pulled out a few basic ingredients: eggs, milk, sugar, butter, and flour. "Pancakes?" he asked, frowning a little.

"That's not exactly the gourmet meal I had in mind."

You smiled brightly. "Who says pancakes can't be fancy? It's about the fun and the love we put into it, right? Come on, let's do it together."

Seeing your enthusiasm, Terasu couldn't help but smile too. "Alright," he relented. "But I'm doing the flipping. I've got to show off my skills somehow."

With that, the two of you got to work. Mixing the batter together felt like an adventure in itself, with flour dusting the counter and you both sneaking tastes of the sweet mixture. Terasu, true to his word, took over the frying pan, expertly flicking his wrist to flip the pancakes in the air.

"Oooh!" you cheered, clapping your hands playfully as the pancake spun and landed perfectly back in the pan. "Look at you, Mr. Tiramisu Yotsurugi!"

Terasu smirked, shaking his head while soaking in the praise. "Told you I had it covered...And I told you not to call me that!"

After you both made a nice stack of fluffy pancakes, you rummaged through the pantry and found a bottle of chocolate syrup. With a mischievous grin, you squeezed the syrup onto one of the pancakes, drawing little cat ears, whiskers, and a mouth. Terasu watched in amusement, and then, without missing a beat, he grabbed a can of whipped cream and added a wild tuft of 'hair' on top of your creation.

The two of you burst into laughter, stepping back to admire your culinary masterpiece.

"It's... beautiful," Terasu said, his voice full of mock seriousness.

"It's perfect," you agreed, pulling out your phone to snap a picture before posting it online with the caption, "Best birthday pancakes ever".

Once the moment was captured, you both finally dug in, savoring the sweet, fluffy pancakes. They were simple, but they were delicious, and most importantly, they were made together.
Terasu leaned back in his chair, satisfied and smiling as he looked at you.

"See? Even pancakes can be fancy with my touch."

You rolled your eyes playfully, giving him a helpless sigh. "Of course, how could I forget?"

He laughed softly, his eyes warm as he looked at you, then leaned in closer, his voice soft. "Happy birthday, Y/N," he said, his tone filled with affection. "I love you."

Your gaze softened as you smiled. You open your mouth to return the words but Terasu quickly closed the distance, pressing a soft kiss to your lips. You blinked, caught off guard by the sudden gesture, but you couldn't help but smile as he pulled away, a cheeky smirk on his face.

"You—!" you exclaimed, lightly swatting his arm, making him laugh.

"Couldn't resist," he teased.

As the laughter died down, the two of you leaned into each other, soaking in the quiet moment. Terasu wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you close as he rested his head on your shoulder, his presence warm and comforting.

"Happy birthday," he murmured again, his voice low and content. "I'm glad we could still make it special."

You smiled softly, turning your head to press a kiss to his cheek. "Thank you, Terasu," you whispered. "It's perfect. And I love you too."

And with that, the rest of the evening passed in peaceful joy, filled with laughter, warmth, and love—just the way a birthday should be.
