Libby Buckley Diaz - 10The sun was just beginning to peek through the curtains as Eddie Diaz stirred from his sleep. He glanced over at his partner, Evan "Buck" Buckley, who was still fast asleep, and smiled. They had a full day ahead of them, but for now, Eddie cherished this quiet moment. He slipped out of bed, careful not to wake Buck, and made his way to the kitchen to start breakfast.
As he was preparing pancakes, Eddie heard the familiar sound of his son Christopher's crutches approaching. Chris, now 13, was always an early riser. "Morning, Dad," Chris said, walking into the kitchen.
"Morning, buddy. Ready for some pancakes?" Eddie asked, ruffling his son's hair.
"Always," Chris replied with a grin.
A few minutes later, Buck appeared, looking a bit groggy but smiling. "Smells good in here," he said, giving Eddie a quick kiss on the cheek before grabbing a cup of coffee.
"Morning, sleepyhead," Eddie teased. "Can you go check on Libby?"
"On it," Buck said, taking a sip of his coffee before heading down the hall to Libby's room.
Libby, their 10-year-old daughter, had been through so much in the past two years. Once a bubbly girl who ran everywhere, she was now in a wheelchair after a fall from a tree had left her unable to walk. Despite the challenges, she remained resilient and spirited.
Buck knocked gently on her door before entering. "Morning, Libs. How's my girl today?"
Libby was already awake, propped up in bed with a book. "Morning, Daddy. I'm good. What's for breakfast?"
"Pancakes. Your favorite," Buck said, helping her with her wheelchair. "Ready to head to the kitchen?"
"Yep!" she said, smiling brightly.
After breakfast, Eddie and Buck informed the kids about their plans for the day. "Guess where we're going?" Eddie asked, a playful glint in his eye.
"Where?" Chris and Libby asked in unison.
"The fair!" Buck announced.
Both kids' faces lit up with excitement. "Really?" Libby asked, her eyes wide.
"Really," Eddie confirmed. "And the best part? The whole 118 and their families are coming too."
The ride to the fair was filled with laughter and chatter. When they arrived, the sight of colorful rides, games, and food stalls was enough to make anyone's day. Buck and Eddie took turns pushing Libby's wheelchair and helping Chris navigate the crowds.
The fairgrounds were bustling with activity as the 118 and their families arrived together. Bright lights, the smell of popcorn, and laughter filled the air, making it a perfect day for fun and relaxation. Eddie, Buck, and their children, Libby and Christopher, were among the group, eager to enjoy the day with their extended family.
Libby, seated comfortably in her wheelchair, looked around with wide eyes, taking in all the sights and sounds. Christopher, always the protective older brother, stayed close by her side, ensuring she was included in everything.
Hen, Karen, Chimney, Maddie, Bobby, and Athena, along with their own families, mingled with the crowd, everyone excited for a day off from the usual pressures of their jobs.
As they walked, Libby's eyes caught sight of a thrilling roller coaster. "Papa, I want to go on that one!" she exclaimed, pointing excitedly.
Eddie and Buck exchanged a look. They were always cautious about making sure Libby could enjoy activities safely. They approached the ride operator, explaining the situation.
