If someone from the future told Taehyung, he was at the Kim residence, he wouldn't be surprised, in fact, he could vividly imagine himself pointing a gun at the wicked old man's bald head. But the thing Taehyung not even in his wildest dream had expected was, him sitting gracefully on one of the low couches in the house, for anything but seeking approval from the exact same man he wholeheartedly longed to put a bullet, well- at any place of his body.
Despite how appealing the thought of seeing his grave was, Taehyung couldn't bring himself to lay at least a finger on the old man for he had the two most important things in his life. While one seemed to million miles away, the other was there, in his arms, fidgeting her fingers anxiously as they waited for her father to show up. That was funny how he had fallen in love with the daughter of a man he despised and he exactly knew closer to her, farther the other. Yet for once, he chose to turn deaf ears to his subconscious, grabbing a hold of her hand and squeezing it with the hope of assuring her, him, both of them.
All of a sudden she let out a surprised chuckle. " This is ridiculous. It's just you meeting my dad for the first time right? "
I had met him several times but none of them were civil. Then why does your voice come out so shaky? He wanted to ask but instead, he gave her a small smile.
"Of course "" I hate silence. We should talk about something, someone, somewhere, whatever."
At that, his smile widened. He was a man with a few words while she was, well- how could he explain least offensively? - never the quietest in the room might be? It didn't matter, of course, he wanted someone like her in his life. Noticing his amused expression she softly swatted his arm.
"Come on, a woman must speak -"
"At least seven thousand words per day. I know" He cut her off fondly.
"Oh I wonder if this one speaks at least fifty per day" She murmured looking over his shoulders as he twisted his neck to see what or rather who was behind him.
A girl who couldn't be much more younger if not older than him entered the living room completely oblivious to her surroundings, holding a phone to her ear as the realisation hit him. There a few meters away from him, was the legitimate heiress to two empires her father and mother had separately built, his going-to-be biggest rival. But the thing that caught Taehyung's attention the most was not that a few years from then they were going to kill each other but the difference between the two sisters, or he should say the half-sisters. One looked like a ball of sunshine with her warm brown eyes and tanned skin while the other stood there like the ice princess with her pale complexion and elegant posture. She looked every bit intimidating as someone in her position should be.
"Sister " Jennie called her over as she finally brought her eyes to them, like now only realising their presence. Her features were sharp compared to her sister and her eyes, god! They were so blue, so cold and so terrifyingly beautiful that he had to break the eye contact first. She definitely took after her half-Russian mother, Taehyung just knew it.
" You are having dinner with us? "
"No"
"Oh, you got plans tonight?" Taehyung was afraid her sweetheart's lips would rip at any moment by the force of the fake smile she was putting on.
"No"
He could see her getting annoyed. Her facade fell as her face got red with humiliation and fury. As half sisters they must have their problems, Taehyung could understand more than anyone else, But obviously, the reason for Jennie's rage was fair. Her sister's words even her gaze were dripped with arrogance, and authority like giving constant reminders of who was the superior.
Without any more words, she grabbed her keys and was about to exit when a deep voice, all three of them knew little too well growled stopping her dead in her tracks.
"Where are you going? Join us. Taehyung here must be excited to get to know you"
Her eyes widened a fraction, Taehyung could bet his good fortune that no one else noticed. The girl was too good at hiding her emotions, her face like a statue in a museum the entire time no matter what she was feeling. And he couldn't imagine a possible reason why that convinced her to sit at a table with her dad who cheated on her mother the whole time they were together and the living result of his sins, her half-sister, Jennie, when he was certain she must despise them both.
And amid this awkward dinner, Taehyung noticed his girlfriend's eyes filling with a strange vengeance that absolutely terrified anyone watching. Her sole focus of hatred was the elegant figure sitting across them who seemed to be in her own world burying her eyes in the almost empty plate. And finally, at the end of one course, she spoke in a sickeningly sweet voice, completely contrary to her wry expressions.
"Daddy, Taehyung and I thought about going on a trip this weekend. How about we all go together. What do you think sister?"
By the time Jennie's half-sister's penetrating gaze turned toward her in a blinding fury, Taehyung had realised two things. One, despite how powerful she was, in that household, she was more vulnerable than a maid in their kitchen. Two, whoever looked down upon her sweetheart must have been really, really afraid cause her revenge was more painful than anything could ever be.
