AS MATT QUICKENS HIS PACE to leave the school premises, he feels a hand gently resting on his shoulder. "matt!" comes hope's voice from behind him.
turning around in surprise at the sound of her voice, matt is a little bewildered, as he and hope never really engaged in conversation, even when she was in the company of nate. "hey, what's going on?"
she let out a sigh and said, "i can't get a ride with vivienne. nate said you'd be cool with giving me one if i just asked." she then added, "it's totally cool if not."
he interrupted her, saying, "it's fine, i don't really mind."
"really?" she blurted out, surprised by his kindness, especially considering how he's been acting with vivienne. "i mean, thanks. let me just go find nate."
matt nodded slowly and then resumed walking to the car. as he approached, he saw his brothers and madeline already waiting outside. "matt, can i sit in the passenger seat?" madeline asked, pouting.
