Y/n POV
A week later, y/n woke up to Jin shaking her awake. Y/n had tried to talk to her brother about dada class but every time she brought it up, he would change the subject so y/n decided not to push it.
"You better have a good reason for waking me up," y/n threatened. "If you don't, you won't be waking up anytime soon,"
"Y/n! We're all gonna be late for class!" Ariana cried.
Y/n bolted up in bed, looking at the clock to see she only had five minutes before classes started.
"We have to go!" Rosemary said before darting out of the room. "I can't be late!"
Ariana followed right behind her, leaving Jin and y/n scrambling to get ready. Y/n threw on her uniform in haste and grabbed her, thankfully, pre packed bag. She and Jin rushed out of the Slytherin's house before running down the halls to get to class.
"Bye y/n!" Jin yelled at her, turning a corner.
    "Good luck," she yelled back.
Y/n made it to the floating staircases and started down one. She saw Sirius and James on a staircase near her and realized they were going to the same class. She made a split second decision to slide down one of the railing, which she was glad she did because of how much faster it was. She hopped off at the end of the staircase, realizing she wasn't fast enough because it started to change.
    "Crouch?" James looked at her.
The Marauders both looked at her shocked that she was on the staircase near them.
"One of you better fucking catch me if I fall," y/n warned.
With that said, she quickly climbed onto the moving railing and leapt. She closed her eyes, praying to touch the nearby staircase. Instead, she fell into a person that held her up before she found her footing. She looked up and saw James laughing at her.
"Jeez, y/n, what's the rush?" Sirius asked.
"I can't get a detention," she blurted out.
"Relax," James rolled his eyes as the staircase started shifting to where their class was. "You can suffer through one detention,"
Y/n leaned against the railing with fear in her eyes. She really couldn't. Her parents would be furious with her.
"You don't understand," she breathed out. "I can't get a detention,"
She felt Sirius' eyes on her and she tried to hold back her tears. She was so exhausted from everything and she knew that her tears were unnecessary. She looked at James, who looked concerned and Sirius who just gave her a nod.
"I understand," Sirius said. "You're a prefect. So we'll just tell Professor that you caught us doing something in the hallway and lectured us. And that's why we're all late,"
The staircase stopped and they all got off before it began moving again. Y/n looked between the two boys, surprised that they were helping her, but also slightly suspicious.
"This isn't one of your pranks is it?" Y/n asked.
"What do you think we are? Monsters?" James laughed.
"Well you did freeze Regulus and I's brooms yesterday," y/n commented.
"That was fun!" Sirius said. "But seriously, this isn't a prank,"
"Yeah, you'll know when it's a prank," James said.
They were outside the classroom door and y/n took a deep breath to calm herself down.
"Let us do all the talking," James advised. "But this is just a favor, don't expect us to be nice all the time now,"
Y/n nodded and rolled her eyes. They walked into the already started class and y/n wanted to shrink when all of her classmates' eyes drifted to them.
"Mr. Potter, Mr. Black, and Miss y/n? To what do I owe the pleasure of you coming to class so late," The professor asked.
Y/n looked at Regulus who was sitting next to her brother. He looked at her with a 'what the fuck are you doing' expression and y/n could only shrug in response. Right behind him was Remus who was staring at his friends with disappointment. Remus gave her a curious look and a slight smile which made her skin heat up.
"Well, it's always good to be fashionably late," Sirius smirked.
Y/n had to stifle an eye roll at that comment, immediately regretting to agreeing to let them do all the talking.
"That's not an answer Mr. Black," The Professor turned to James. "Mr. Potter?"
"Well, we were just trying to have some fun by pranking Snivellus, but y/n stopped us and lectured us," James explained. "Which is why we're late,"
"Miss Crouch, is this true?" The Professor asked.
Y/n nodded but she could tell the Professor wasn't convinced.
"Very well, I will not deduct any house points, but you will have three weeks of Friday detention," the Professor said. "All three of you. I will not tolerate lateness of any sorts,"
"But we already have-" James started to speak but Sirius elbowed him.
"We're sorry Professor," Sirius plastered on his signature grin.
The boys went and sat down at the last empty pair of desks, leaving y/n with no option but to sit with Remus. Not that she really minded. She would rather sit with him than James or Sirius. She immediately pulled out her quill and scroll and began taking notes, ignoring Remus' stare.
    "What?" She finally whispered.
"Nothing, just in shock that Padfoot and Prongs tried to help you," he smirked.
Y/n looked at him with false hurt.
"You don't think they were telling the truth?" She asked, ignoring the odd nicknames.
    Remus raised an eyebrow.
"You have two different socks on," he pointed out.
Y/n looked down and saw he was right.
"I don't know what you're talking abou," she said. "This is called style,"
Remus smirked again and went back to taking notes. Regulus turned around and mouthed 'what happened?' Y/n pretended to sleep and he got the message with a quiet laugh. Regulus glared at Remus before turning back around
The rest of class went by fast and before y/n knew it, class was over.
"Hey, y/n," Remus called when she started packing up her stuff.
Y/n looked up at him, knowing her face was pink. She was attempting to ignore the fact that he just called her y/n and not Crouch, which brought heat to her face.
"What do you want Lupin?" Regulus answered for her.
He stood directly next to y/n as she packed up her stuff, Barty having already left. His arms were crossed and he had a pissed off expression on his face.
"I was talking to y/n," Remus sassed, his expression slightly pissed off.
"Yeah?" Y/n asked before adding. "Remus?"
Remus' expression changed slightly before he responded.
"I was just wondering where you wanted to meet for patrol dove," he said.
Y/n's mind went blank. Dove. That's what her Moony called her.
"Oh, uhm," she hadn't even thought about that. "I guess the Great Hall,"
Remus nodded and continued packing up his stuff.
"Asshole," Regulus whispered under his breath, just loud enough for Remus to hear.
"What the hell did you say to me?" He asked.
Suddenly James and Sirius appeared next to him.
"Ignore him, it's just his time of the month," Sirius winked.
"Stop saying that," Remus rolled his eyes.
Y/n watched as Sirius and Remus left the classroom, James staying behind. He looked at Regulus, the look on his face unreadable before rushing after his friends.
"What was that about?" Y/n asked her friend.
"I-it was nothing," Regulus turned his head, attempting to hide his red face.
"Holy shit!" Y/n cheered. "You like him?!"
    "Shut up!" Regulus whined.
    "You're not denying it,"
"Yeah, but I hate myself for it. Please don't tell the guys," he pleaded.
"I would never, but now that I know, I'll be your wingman,"
"God please no," Regulus groaned. "I'd rather you kill me,"
    "I'm proud of you, Reg,"
"S-shut up, stop making this sappy," he paused. "Did you know?"
    "That you were gay? Yes,"
    "How?!" Regulus exclaimed.
"Reg, boys and girls change in the same room for quidditch, you're not subtle checking out Rupert," y/n laughed.
They walked to class in silence and sat down in their normal seats in the back. They were the only Slytherins in the class, everyone else being Ravenclaws or Hufflepuffs. Class started and a couple minutes into class, y/n decided to ask Regulus something that'd been bugging her for a while.
"Reg," she asked. "How did you know?"
"What do you mean?" He questioned.
"How did you know," she paused. "That you liked him?"
"I don't know," he shrugged. "I guess when he and I were partners for a project last year, something just kind of clicked,"
    Y/n gaped at her friend.
"You knew since last year? And you didn't tell me?" She asked.
"I was afraid you'd be mad," he laughed. "Now I know it's worse than that. Why'd you ask though?"
Y/n paused, thinking of the best way to explain her confused feelings.
"C'mon who is it? It can't be worse than mine," Regulus rolled his eyes.
"Well, I'm not 100% sure if I like him but I think I might be starting to develop feelings for Remus," y/n said.
She braced herself for Regulus' reaction but he just gaped at her with his jaw hanging open.
"So you're telling me I just pissed off your crush?" He asked.
"My maybe crush," y/n clarified. "And don't worry, I've pissed your crush off more times than I can count,"
"Miss Crouch, Mr. Black," the Professor called to them. "Is there something you want to share with the class?"
"No sir!" Y/n and Regulus said in unison.
"You two seemed quite chatty," she said. "Three Friday detentions for both of you,"
The Professor went back to teaching, leaving y/n and Regulus in shock. You spent the rest of class sitting silently but secretly kicking each other under the table.
After class, Professor Dumbledore stopped y/n and Regulus in the hallway.
"Ah, Mr. Black, Miss Crouch, just the two Slytherins I wanted to see," he said.
"Oh, Hello Professor Dumbledore," Regulus said. "What do you need?"
"Well, I have noticed that the two of you have never taken a single muggle related class," Dumbledore commented. "I would like to promote for our students to have extensive knowledge in all fields and it would be a shame if two of the brightest students here were limited in their know,"
Y/n and Regulus stared at him blankly.
"What are you saying?" Y/n asked.
"I have switched both of your study periods to advanced muggle studies," Dumbledore smiled. "I'm sure that won't be difficult for you two,"
    "Thank you professor," Regulus sighed.
Once Dumbledore left, Y/n and Regulus laughed.
"I guess we'll be well rounded students now," Regulus laughed.
When it came time for her patrol, y/n nervously waited for Remus at the Great Hall entrance. She felt free with the fact that she finally told someone about her possible feelings towards Remus but she forgot that she'd have to see him.
"Hey y/n," Remus walked up to her. "Ready to go?"
Y/n nodded and they started on their way. They got to skip their fourth block for prefect duty which was a big plus, considering that it was potions for both of them. Y/n loved having Professor Slughorn as a teacher, but she liked to take her time while brewing potions but he rushed the class, leaving y/n with messed up potions.
"We'll have to make up potions," y/n commented.
"I already talked to Slughorn," Remus said. "He said we could come by on Saturday,"
They walked in a comfortable silence for a couple of minutes until y/n broke it.
"Could you do something for me?" She asked.
"Hm?" Remus looked at her, intrigued. "Yeah, sure. What is it?"
"Could you thank your friends for me?" She asked. "They tried to help me and I appreciate it,"
"Wow dove," Remus laughed. "I never thought I'd live to see the day you wanted to thank James and Sirius,"
Y/n grinned at the nickname again.
"Just do it you bloke," y/n hit him softly.
"Alright, I guess. Although this is gonna inflate their egos more than normal," he laughed.
They walked in silence for a couple more minutes.
    "I have a question," y/n said.
"What is this, twenty questions?" Remus joked.
It seemed that he immediately regretted saying that. Y/n's thoughts wandered. Twenty questions, just like at the ball. She had been trying to find her Moony but she didn't know anyone in the school who went by that nickname.
"Anyways," Remus half laughed. "What's the question?"
"Are you a muggle born?" She asked.
"I'm a half-blood. Why do you ask?" Remus looked over at her.
Y/n could feel her face heating up.
"Well, I, uhm, Regulus and I got moved to a muggle studies class," y/n explained. "And I don't know anything about muggles,"
    "When's your class?" Remus asked.
    "Third on Monday," y/n said.
"That's when I have it," Remus smiled at her. "I can help you,"
"Really," y/n tried not to sound excited. "That'd be awesome,"
"Yeah, of course," he grinned. "That's what friends are for,"
Y/n's brain short circuited. He just called her his friend! The rest of their patrol, y/n's brain was trying to wrap around the singular word that was driving her insane. By the end of the patrol, y/n realized that something was off with Remus. He seemed super nervous and kept picking at his fingers.
"Thanks again for agreeing to help me in muggle studies," Y/n said when they finished their patrol, back at the Great Hall.
"Hm?" Remus said, lost in thought. "Oh, yeah. I don't mind,"
Y/n's brain went to the first logical conclusion: he regretted agreeing to help her with muggle studies. And her second thought was that she should make him feel like he doesn't have to help her if he didn't want to.
"You don't have to help me," y/n blurted out quickly. "I don't want to bother you,"
"What? No, I rea-" Remus started to say.
"It's fine," y/n said quickly, ignoring eye contact with him. "I don't wanna bother you with it. See you at patrol tonight,"
Without waiting to hear his goodbye, y/n quickly turned around and rushed to her dorm. She entered the Slytherin common room and saw her brother and friends lounging around the fireplace.
"Y/n!" Caius called. "There she is!"
"Hey kid!" Evan yelled. "Come sit with us,"
Y/n walked over and slumped down onto the couch next to her brother, leaning into his side.
    "Long day?" He asked.
"You tell me," y/n sighed. "You saw me get three Friday detentions,"
"Yeah, and you got another one after too," Regulus laughed.
"So did you," y/n stuck her tongue out at him.
"Jeez, prefect patrol with Lupin has made you a rebel," Evan laughed.
    Y/n paused, thinking before talking.
"He's not that bad," she said.
"Not that bad!? Now I've heard it all," Barty laughed. "He's a Marauder, of course he's bad,"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Y/n sat up, looking at her brother.
"That they're all pretentious assholes," Barty rolled his eyes. "And even worse, Gryffindors,"
"Don't tell us you like them y/n," Caius said.
"I-I don't," y/n rolled her eyes, stealing a glance at Regulus. "I just don't think they're honestly all that bad,"
"They must've brainwashed you," Evan laughed.
"Yeah, stop going near them, especially that Remus Lupin kid," Barty said. "I don't like them,"
"Well, he's my prefect partner, what do you expect me to do?" Y/n rolled her eyes.
"Walk on the other side of the hallways," Barty said.
Y/n rolled her eyes before heading up to her dorm room.
"Aww, don't be mad y/n!" Evan called up to her.
Y/n just flipped them all off in return. She got to her room and saw that Rosemary and Jin were both there. They were sitting on the floor with a tray of hot chocolates and some chocolate bars.
"Hey y/n!" Jin grinned at her, dimples showing. "Want a hot chocolate?"
She had her short, silky, hair tied back as best she could. She and Rosemary were both already in their pajamas, despite it only being the afternoon.
    "Sure," y/n half smiled.
She changed into a pink checkered pajama top and matching pajama shorts.
"What's wrong?" Rosemary asked when y/n sat down with a sigh.
"Trouble with the boyfriend?" Jin joked.
"Oooh, you have a boyfriend?" Rosemary laughed. "Is it that cute guy who was looking for you last week?"
"Cute guy- oh you mean Remus," y/n said. "We're not dating,"
"But you recognized him as the cute guy," Jin waggled her eyebrows.
Y/n rolled her eyes and took a sip of the hot chocolate.
"How's patrol going with him anyways?" Jin asked.
"Are you two prefects together?" Rosemary asked.
"Yeah, we are," y/n smiled slightly before remembering her last encounter with him. "And it's been fine. Night patrols suck though. I barely get any sleep,"
"Do you have one tonight?" Rosemary asked.
"Yeah, I think I might take a nap before I have to go out," y/n yawned.
"Well good night y/n," Jin laughed.
"Good night," y/n yawned again. "Wake me up at ten thirty?"
Jin nodded and she and Rosemary went back to their conversation. Y/n climbed into her bed and quickly fell asleep, her dream being about who her Moony might be.
