Remus woke up feeling sore but he was surprised to realize that the normal burning sensation he would feel after he transformed.
"Moony!" James yelled, making Remus' head hurt slightly. "You're awake!"
"Lower Prongs, please," Remus winced.
"Oh, sorry," he said.
"How do you feel?" Sirius asked.
"Honestly, better than normal," Remus admitted. "How was last night? I can't really remember any of it,"
Normally, Remus could recall some things from the night before when he was in werewolves form but for some reason, his mind was blocking off the night. He looked at his friends who were silently having a conversation.
"Oh my God, I hurt someone, didn't I?" Remus sat up, scared.
"No, no, no, you didn't hurt anyone," Sirius reassured him.
Remus swore he heard him whisper something but he couldn't be sure.
"It was uneventful," James said.
"Really?" Remus asked, relieved.
"Yeah, completely uneventful," Peter said.
Remus sighed in relief. He was thankful that he didn't hurt anyone.
"We gotta go to detention," James sighed. "Minnie let us skip classes but she won't let us skip detention,"
"Yeah, something about needing to be fixed in the mind," Sirius air quoted.
"Alright, thanks for helping again guys," Remus strained a smile. "Guess it's just your and I, Wormtail,"
Peter stared at him, eyes wide, obviously wanting to say something, but instead he just looked at James and Sirius for help.
"He needs to come with us," James said.
"Oh, wait, guys," Remus called after them. "Do you mind telling y/n I'm sorry I missed our patrol? Just make something up,"
"Yeah, sure, but why do you care what she thinks?" Sirius asked. "She's a Slytherin,"
Remus felt his face go red as he tried to explain himself.
"I, uhm, I don't, I just don't want her to think I'm an asshole?" He suggested.
Luckily, they took the bait. At least he thought they did.
"Alright Moony, we'll tell her, but you owe us for talking to a Slytherin," Sirius said.
When they left, Remus breathed out a sigh of relief.
Small third person POV
"C'mon Pete," James whined. "You gotta get better at hiding things. You almost blew it!"
"Sorry!" Peter apologized.
They were right outside the detention room right before James and Sirius needed to go in.
"What did you almost blow up?" Y/n's voice appeared out of nowhere. "Wait, let me guess, Snape?"
Regulus was right next to her snickering.
"Very funny," James rolled his eyes.
"But not a bad idea," Sirius said.
James and Sirius followed y/n into det, which was being moderated by Professor Slughorn.
"Ah Mr. Potter, Mr. Black," Slughorn looked at y/n. "And Mr. Black and Miss Crouch? How did my favorite students get detention?"
"Stayed up too late trying to perfect my homework for your class, slept in," y/n shrugged.
"A misunderstanding," Regulus said.
"Ah, well then, I'm sure since you two are such good students you wouldn't mind taking over moderating detention? I could use a nap," he said. "Just for today,"
"Of course Professor," y/n smiled.
"Alright, I'll cast a spell that will lock the doors until it is over," he turned to Sirius and James. "So no one leaves,"
Once he closed the door behind him, James and Sirius turned to y/n who discreetly motioned to Regulus. James nodded and went to sit down next to Regulus.
"You question her," he whispered as he passed Sirius. "Hey Reg,"
Regulus' head shot up when he heard the nickname. James slid down into the seat next to Regulus, admiring his gray eyes.
"Hey," Regulus said slowly. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to talk," James said.
It was true. He really wanted to talk to Regulus. The thing was that James had had a giant crush on Regulus since he realized he was poly. People often saw him as a player and a flirt but in all reality, he only ever had two crushes, Lily and Regulus, both of whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. While James and Regulus were both getting their flirt on, Sirius was staring y/n down on the other side of the room.
"Aren't you supposed to be questioning me?" Y/n asked.
"Remus wanted us to tell you he's sorry for missing patrol last night," Sirius said, ignoring her question. "He wanted us to make something up as to why he's in the infirmary. He wanted to make sure you didn't think he was an asshole,"
"How's he doing?" Y/n's face softened.
"He woke up right before we left. He said he feels better than he's ever felt after a full moon," Sirius said. "But I'm the one asking the questions, not you,"
"Okay?" Y/n half laughed.
She couldn't tell if Sirius was putting on an act or if he actually hated her.
"Tell me, why does Remus care so much about what you think of him?" He asked.
"I, uhm, I don't know," y/n's face heated up.
"And why do you care so much about him?" Sirius asked.
"W-what do you mean? I don't know what you're talking about,"
"How did you know how to help him?" Sirius asked.
"I'm not telling you that,"
"Okay, valid," he huffed. "So why did you help him?"
Y/n didn't know how to answer that. She didn't really know.
"Well, it started out as just protecting Rosemary. But once we got into the woods, I just, I don't know, it felt right," she shrugged.
"Alright, last question," he smirked. "How long have you liked him?"
"Uhm, wh-what? I don't like him,"
"Hmph," Sirius crossed his arms. "I think I get it,"
His face shifted into a smile which continued to drag y/n down into a deeper sense of confusion.
"So what're we gonna tell Remus, Pinch?" Sirius asked.
"Pinch?" Y/n asked.
"Yeah, that's your name now," Sirius rolled his eyes. "Obviously,"
"That was supposed to be obvious?" She asked.
"Yeah. This doesn't mean we're friends though!" He got defensive. "We just have a mutual friend that means a lot to us,"
"Woah woah woah, who said he and I were friends?" Y/n said nervously.
"Please," Sirius rolled his eyes. "We both know you guys are friends and he obviously cares for you and you for him so I'm not gonna get in between that. Now what are we gonna tell him?"
An idea lit in y/n's mind.
"What if we say that you told me he was on his way to patrol and was attacked by the same hippogriff I was attacked by?" Y/n said.
"That's a stupid plan," Sirius said.
"You're just mad you didn't think of it," y/n rolled her eyes.
"We can use it I guess," he shrugged. "By the way, your first year is literally awesome,"
"Huh? Rosemary? Why?"
"She's been telling everyone about the wild Hippogriff and I gotta say, she really sold it, I overheard her explaining it to a Gryffindor first year and I almost believed her," Sirius laughed.
"What're you two laughing about?" James came over, a flustered Regulus right behind him.
"Nothing as interesting as I'm sure you two were talking about," y/n smirked.
Regulus rolled his eyes and cast a spell that sent some of the nearby chalk right towards her head.
"I guess this means we can't prank you guys anymore," James said sadly. "Now that we're all best friends,"
"Woah, best friends is stretching it," y/n said.
"Friends would even be stretching it," Regulus laughed. "Besides, the pranks are fun,"
"And it'll keep up our street cred," Sirius agreed.
"Please, the only street cred you have is a fake leather jacket," y/n rolled her eyes.
"How dare you call it fake," Sirius said, offended.
"It is though, I got it for you," Regulus pointed out. "You said real leather was anti animal,"
"Just to clarify, this is an inside friendship because it really would ruin our street cred if we were friends with Slytherins," James said.
Y/n rolled her eyes and Regulus nodded. The magical lock on the door ended and the door swung open.
"Wanna head back to the common room?" Regulus asked.
""Nah, she's gonna come with me to see Moony," Sirius swung his arm around y/n.
She quickly wiggled her way out of his arm and looked at Regulus, who had a smug smirk on his face, with a shrug.
"That's fine. Reg, do you wanna get some food from the kitchens," James asked.
"Wha-" Regulus started.
"That's a yes," James started dragging him away.
"Have fun!" Y/n called to them.
"Y'know James has had a 'secret' crush on him for a while now," Sirius said, putting air quotes around secret.
"Yeah, well, would you be surprised if I said Regulus had liked him for a while too?" Y/n laughed.
"No way, really?" Sirius laughed.
"Guess we gotta play matchmaker,"
"You can. I'm already busy planning your and Remus' wedding," Sirius smirked.
"I have no clue what you're even talking about.
They were walking down the hallway, almost to the infirmary. Whenever someone passed by, they would stop talking, as if it was a silent agreement.
"Alright, show time," Sirius said, opening the door.
Sirius dragged y/n over to Remus' bed.
"Y-y/n?" Remus sat up in his bed, fixing his hair. "What- uh- what are you doing here?"
He noticed the visible marks on her face and fear flooded in him. Did he hurt her
"W-what happened to you?" He asked.
"A wild hippogriff attacked me on patrol," y/n shrugged.
"Yeah, the same one I told her attacked you!" Sirius said. "And that's why you're in the infirmary and couldn't make it to your patrol,"
"Oh, yeah," Remus said. "He, uh, he got you too?"
"Yeah, got her good," Sirius said. "I'm gonna go, see you later! Bye Moony! Bye Pinch!
Sirius rushed out of there, not waiting for any response from them. Remus slightly froze, hoping y/n didn't hear Sirius call him Moony. Then it connected that he called y/n Pinch?
"Pinch?" He asked.
"Don't ask because I don't even know," y/n rolled her eyes.
Remus admired her as she tucked her hair behind her ear, the sun lighting her up like the angel he knew she was.
"So," y/n sat down on the edge of his bed. "How bad did it hurt you?"
Remus looked at y/n's worried face and subconsciously reached over and gently grabbed her hands. Her face became slightly red as he smiled at her and it made him want to tell her everything.
"I'm fine y/n," he smiled. "What about you? Looks like a pretty deep cut,"
His fingers brushed over her cut which made her wince. He cupped her face and brought it close to his own, suppressing a smirk when he saw how flustered it made her. He tilted her head and examined the cut.
"Yeah, that's a really deep cut," he commented. "How did you close it up on your own,"
"I, uh, worked at my uncle's conservatory, there were, uhm, a lot of animals," y/n mustered out.
Remus let go of her face, letting his hands linger. Y/n's eyes seemed a little bit wider than normal and her face was flustered beyond compare.
"Still, super impressive," he said. "But what would I expect from the brightest witch in the school,"
"Did you hit your head or something?" Y/n half laughed.
"Nope, but I do need your help catching me up with what I missed in class today," he smiled.
"I can help you tomorrow before we make up the potion lesson," y/n offered.
"Yeah, sure, any excuse to be near you," Remus winked.
"Okay, you definitely hit your head," y/n laughed.
"Remus! I brought you hot chocolate!" A voice called.
Remus looked up and saw Lily holding a tray of hot chocolate. He smiled and waved her over before realizing that y/n tensed up.
"I should, uhm, I should go," y/n stood up.
"Wait, you don't have to," Lily said. "You can have mine!"
"That's alright," y/n said quickly. "I'll let you two talk. See you tomorrow Remus,"
With that, she dashed out of the infirmary. Lily looked at Remus and raised an eyebrow.
"What was that?" She asked.
"Could not tell you," Remus laughed. "But I do think I'm making progress with her,"
"Clearly. She came to visit you!"
"Well, tomorrow she's gonna catch me up on what I missed today," Remus smiled. "Right before we make up the potions lesson. What potion are we brewing anyways?"
"I'm not gonna tell you," Lily smirked. "And neither will Professor Slughorn. It's a little trick he's playing. He just gives you the ingredients and the steps and you brew it on your own,"
"Should I be worried?" He asked.
"Nope!" Lily popped the 'p'.
