The following day, Lucifer strolled through the door of our bedroom with a basket in his hands. "I have a gift for you little one," he said as he came to sit beside me on the bed.

"What's this?" I asked as I stroked the top of Styx's head as I sat crossed legged with him in my lap. He set the basket down and gently lifted the black cloth that was laid across the top. Nestled within the basket was a crystal orb. It was heavy and cold to the touch as I scooped it into my hands.

"This is an orb of omniscience. With it you can see whatever you wish. Look in on your grandmother, or Amiah. I know you miss them, and I thought that this would help make you feel closer to them."

"Thank you," I said as I set it down and threw my arms around his neck while I pelted him with kisses.

He chuckled as his hand gripped my sides. "Thats not all, love." I pulled back and he withdrew a small box from the bottom of the basket. He opened it to reveal a beautiful necklace with carefully woven silver that wrapped around a shimmering white oval stone. "This amulet will protect you and keep you from harm. I want you to always wear it."

I pulled my hair to the side as he clasped it around my neck. "Thank you, I love it. All of this."

"I'm glad. All I want is for you to be happy," he said with a soft smile as he picked up the orb and held it before me. "Now, with this, all you have to do is think of the person you wish to see, and it will show you." Lucifer placed the orb in my hands, and I closed my eyes and thought of my gran. When I opened them, I saw her sitting in her chair with her crochet needles in hand as she rocked back and forth in her chair. My eyes watered as I watched her, and though it wasn't the same as being able to sit beside her, it almost felt as if I were.

"I miss her," I sniveled as it overwhelmed me. Not just missing her, but my old life too. My job, my apartment, my car. Being able to go where I wanted, when I wanted without fear of someone trying to kill me. I missed nights out with Amiah and getting new tattoos. I even missed cooking my own meals and cleaning, and I hated cleaning.

Lucifer wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his lap, holding me against his chest. "Don't cry little one. It hurts me to see you this way." I couldn't help it though. As much as I wanted to be with him, I also wanted to go home. I was torn between love and life even if the decision was never going to be mine to make.

After wiping my eyes, I put my hand to his cheek as I said, "I love you Lucifer, I really do, and this is wonderful, but I still miss my home. My life."

He stared at me; I could see he muscles in his jaw as he tensed them—the calculation in his eyes. "Am I not enough for you Keiran?"

"Of course you are." I set the orb aside on the bed and brought my legs around him as I took his face in my hands. "You are enough, this is all just so different than what I'm used to." I hadn't meant to hurt his feelings when I said that I only wanted him to understand why I was upset.

His brows were pressed down, and his full lips held a subtle downward curve. "Yet you still wish to leave . . ."

"Not leave you, just . . . be able to." I shook my head, not knowing what else to say.

"I already told you, it's too dangerous for you to leave now, and if you did, you could be putting your grandmother and the people you care about at risk too." I straightened at his statement. I hadn't thought about that. If his enemies, or Conquest knew I was up there, what would stop them from going to gran's to find me?

"I know," I said as I slumped into his arms. He ran his hands along my back and the warmness of them was soothing. "I'm sorry, I just need to get used to this."
