Sal's pov
Anxiety and anticipation bubbled in me as I pulled on a T-shirt and paired it with a baggy flannel. From what I had gathered from Larry, Emile seemed like a pretty cool person but then again I still didn't know all that much about her.
I knew that she was Travis's Best friend, but from some of my phone calls with Travis I had seen that they acted more like siblings than anything.
I took a look at myself in the mirror, as I attempted to straighten out my messy hair.
This is as good as it's gonna get, I concluded before exiting the bathroom. I shuffled into the living room and looked around for my dad. I presumed he was in his room so I knocked on the door before slowly pushing it open. "Dad, I'm going out, I'll be back in a few hours," I explained.
He looked up from the paper he was typing out, "Okay have fun, kid," he replied before turning back to his computer.
I slipped my shoes on before grabbing my keys and stepping into the hallway, pulling the door closed behind me.
I had made it a few steps into the parking lot when I noticed a blue Ford truck with Travis hanging halfway out of the tinted window waving at me.
Another arm, lined with rubber bracelets, emerged from it and began to wave frantically as well. Travis glared at the hand before hastily shoving it back inside.
This led to him being shoved and almost falling out of the truck. I stifled a laugh at their child-like antics. As I neared the truck, Travis stepped out and opened the door for me.
I climbed inside and looked up, "what a gentleman," Emile snorted in amusement. She had shoulder length orange hair and freckles lining her cheeks and nose, paired with green eyes and a baby face. She stared at me curiously, I cleared my throat.
"I'm Sal," I said. She smiled at me, revealing a small tooth gap that added to her child-like appearance. "I know," she started. "I'm Emile, I'm assuming you know about me already, or at least I hope Travis mentioned me, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't though," Travis huffed and rolled his eyes playfully, "ignore her, she just likes to make me look horrible," he explained as an amused smile spread across his features.
"He has, he's talked about you a lot actually," I replied. She started the car and began to pull out of the driveway. "Oh you too, you're all he ever talks about I swear he never stops," she snickered.
"Emile, you said you'd at least try not to embarrass me," he complained. I smirked as I leaned over the center console, "what's he say?" I questioned, ignoring Travis's complaints.
"I knew you guys were gonna gang up on me," he grumbled leaning back in his seat, sighing in defeat. "Oh he talks on and on about your soft hair, and pretty hand-" she began.
"Okay! That's enough of your input!" He said frantically as his face began to grow red. His eyes met mine in the rearview mirror, an unspoken tension flowing through the air.
He cleared his throat before his eyes fell to the window. "How's your girlfriend, Emile?" He questioned, desperately trying to change the subject.
"She's fine, she's getting a place in Cooper county," she replied. "I honestly hope she leaves her dog with her parents, I can't stand that little shit, he acts like he's all big and bad, like bro you're like a foot tall,"
I laughed at her animated way of explaining things. I could see why Travis liked to be around her.
I unbuckled my seatbelt as we pulled into the parking lot of the mall. I closed the door and shuffled towards Travis, as we walked towards the entrance my hand brushed against his, "Why are we here again?" I questioned as I glanced towards Emile who was digging in her truck for her wallet.
"She thinks I need new clothes, my clothes are perfectly fine though, they don't have any stains or rips," he grumbled. "They're ugly," she stated bluntly as she walked ahead of us.
"And your shoes are bright green and Falling apart, you've had those since freshman year," she continued. "That's what I've been saying," I muttered as he sighed.
The first store she led us to was a shoe store. "Okay Travis here's what we're gonna do," she began, "you're gonna pick out a few pairs and if it doesn't get vetoed by me or sal then we'll get them," he rolled his eyes.
"You're unbelievable," he stated. "I'm paying, the least you can do is get something that doesn't look like you just stepped in dog shit," She said as I snickered.
"This is why I didn't want you two to meet, I knew you'd bully me," he wiped an invisible tear from his eye as he began to walk around the store.
Not even ten minutes later he walked back towards us with a pair of shoes in his hands. "Dude those are the same exact one you have on right now," she said crossing her arms over her chest.
He sighed and went back to the different racks of shoes. He came back with a pair of low top black converse, "high-tops are better," I said before he turned around to grab a pair of the high-tops.
We checked out before leaving the store and heading towards the escalator, "we can stop at one of these food carts before we move on to the clothing stores" she hummed as we stepped off the escalator.
