As Hank drove through the streets of downtown, Y/N sat slumped in the front passenger seat, not unlike a cranky teen. She had refused to acknowledge Connor or Hank when they had finally reached the car, and her current scowling out of her window did nothing to help ease the tension.
Ten minutes or so went by in silence before Hank pulled up across the street from a food truck with a bright neon sign on its roof that said 'Chicken Feed: Chicken Sandwiches & Smoked Wings.' Y/N finally looked over to Hank's side of the car, peering out at the food truck.
"Is this where you disappear to at 3 every day?" she mumbled.
"Yep," Hank replied, turning the car off before stepping out. As he crossed, he was nearly hit by a car.
"Whoa! Hey! Hey! Hey!"
Y/N grunted out a laugh as she watched him flick off the automated car as it sped around him.
She sighed loudly, rolling her head in attempts to crack her neck before unbuckling her seatbelt and moved to exit the car without a single word to Connor, opening the door and swinging a leg out. Before she could swing her second leg out, he spoke up for the first time since they'd left the alley.
"Detective, may I ask you a question?" he asked. She turned to look at him in the backseat, scowling at him.
"What is it?" she said, annoyed.
"Why were you so upset when I tried to cross the highway?"
Y/N looked away, taking a deep breath after a moment.
"Look, I'm sorry I yelled at you, that wasn't right of me. I just... It was enough watching that kid almost get hurt. I felt helpless, and I hate when kids get hurt..." she started, furrowing her eyebrows as she spoke. "And then you? Trying to recklessly throw yourself down there? You could've been killed," she said, looking up at him.
Connor tilted his head at her. "Lieutenant Anderson said you were upset with me because you like me."
Y/N felt her cheeks redden, her eyes widening in surprise as Connor once again caught her completely off guard. "Well—yeah, I like you. You—I don't know. I—"
"I'm glad you like me," he said thoughtfully.
Y/N looked at him in disbelief as she let out a breathy laugh. "You're really something else, you know that?"
"Well, I am a prototype," he said with a nod of his head, making Y/N laugh again.
"Yeah, yeah..." Y/N said with a chuckle, finally getting out of the car and making her way over to Hank, shielding herself from the rain with her arm as best she could.
"Hey, kid," he said, peering over at her.
"Hey," she said, putting her hands in her pockets as Connor walked up behind her.
Hank rolled his eyes as Connor stopped beside him. "What is your problem? Don't you ever do as you're told? Look, you don't have to follow me around like a poodle!"
After a moment of silence, Connor spoke.
"I'm sorry for my behavior back at the police station. I didn't mean to be unpleasant," Connor said.
"Oh, wow... You've even got a brown-nosing apology program!" Hank said with a slight grin, turning to Y/N with an eyebrow raised, "Guys at CyberLife thought of everything, huh?"
Y/N chuckled, "They did. He just did the same thing to me in the car."
Hank chuckled, shaking his head.
