You're Dramatic

"Oh my gosh, you are being so dramatic!"

It slips out of her mouth before she can stop herself and she immediately regrets it. Taylor didn't mean it in a negative way at all. Yes, she was of making fun of Travis for the way he was eyeing his hamburger with the utmost disgust, but she wasn't being serious. Surely, Travis would know she's kidding, but maybe he wouldn't. Joe definitely would have taken it personally and made sure she knew that he was not impressed by being called 'dramatic'. She can practically hear his accented voice scolding her, telling her to look in the mirror and then you'll see what dramatic is. Trying to remain composed as to not let Travis see she's thinking of Joe again, she searches his face for a reaction.

"I am not being dramatic" he says assertively, there's a hint of playfulness in his tone. Taylor hangs on to it with hope that he's understood her joke. "I am being very serious, I might die if I eat mayo."

When Travis finishes talking, she immediately relaxes. He knew she was joking around and he had taken her words lightly. They had ordered burgers from Shake Shack for dinner; a post-game meal for Travis and something Taylor had been craving all week. When she was with Joe they barely got burgers and when they did, definitely not from a chain restaurant. They were too messy, greasy, and juvenile for him. Nothing refined and proper about a puck-shaped clump of processed meat on a mediocre bun with stale condiments. Travis shared her love for a good, fast food burger though. So when she'd asked if he wanted take-out from Shake Shack for dinner, he'd jumped at the opportunity for a good, greasy meal. To his disappointment, despite Travis' strict instructions to leave the mayonnaise and onions off  his burger, the condiments were on there and in full force.

"You're not going to die!" Taylor laughed.

"You don't know that! I could be allergic, have a reaction and I could die right here." he deadpanned.

"Babe, I've literally seen you eat every ingredient thats in mayo and you've been fine," she reminds him. It's true, mayonnaise is just made up of oil, eggs, and many other chemicals she couldn't pronounce if she tried. Travis had no issue with those foods, just as long as they weren't combined into a white, creamy, burger sauce.

"I'm mentally allergic, though. I can't eat it like this."

Taylor burst out laughing, mentally allergic? Only Travis would say that.

"I will fix it for you" she said placing her own burger down and reaching for his untouched one. Taylor understood his pickiness when it came to food. She was also a little picky, well not picky but particular and somewhat anxious about trying new things. Travis on the other hand was picky. If it didn't look like he would like it, he wouldn't eat it and if he'd eaten it in the past and not liked it, he needed it 10 feet away from anything that he was going to put in his mouth. Something Jason and Kylie, and now Taylor, teased him for. Kylie joked that Jason and her three daughters were more adventurous eaters than Travis and she was probably right.

She started picking the sliced, white onions out of the mayonnaise on his burger. Travis watched her skeptically, especially when she grabbed a knife and tried to scoop the mayonnaise off. She suddenly felt like a mother, deconstructing her picky child's dinner so they would eat it. Even using a napkin to soak in any leftover onion flavour or sauce.

"See! Good as new" Taylor plopped the top bun back on the burger and presented him the now, mayonnaise and onion free one. He leaned his head down to the table and eyed it closely for any speck left on the burger.

"Ok, but if there's mayo or onion on here I will throw up" he warns, smile cracking over his face at the end. Taylor returns the smile and giggles.

"You're a child, you know that?" that's a bold statement and she knows it. She doesn't even want to imagine the backlash that she would've received from Joe if she'd come out with that one in their relationship.

"Well you just separated my food, so does that make you my mommy?" Travis asks, smirking. At that she bursts out laughing and cringing at the same time.
