Dead To Me - Kali Uchis
{Heeseung}
"Ugh... I hate school..." I sigh, laying my head down on the desk. It was only the second day of school and I felt miserable. Having to wake up early was the worst.
Jay lets out a little chuckle, "I'm sure you'll get through it soon, Hee. It's not like you haven't been to school before." He pats my head in reassurance, Sunghoon sitting down next to him after entering the room.
"I suppose you're right..."
We continue to talk until we hear the door slide open. We assume it's our professor as always, but instead of a "Good morning," we hear a "Hey, who's that?" Why does this sound weird? Well, we barely get new students nowadays, so everyone knows each other... Almost everyone at least.
The three of us look up at the door, everyone glancing at the new kid. Some girls in the corner are already whispering about him as he just silently stands near the doorway. He looks slightly uncomfortable, I can tell by the way he's fidgeting with his fingers.
Sunghoon raises his eyebrow, "Hey, isn't that the new kid?" He turns to us after examining him from afar, making Jay scoff in disbelief.
"Of course that's the new kid, Hoon. Nobody knows him, at least for now." Jay uttered, crossing his arms while staring at the student. "He seems pretty kind, we should introduce ourselves, no?"
I lift my head off the desk completely, looking at Jay. "You guys can do that, I'm gonna continue my work since I forgot to do it last night." I lied, I was completely mindful of the homework, but I didn't do it. Besides, who gives homework on the first day of school?
"Alright, man. You do you." Sunghoon spoke before getting up and walking over to the student, Jay following behind him.
I sigh, "I don't want to even meet him."
—
"Seriously, you invited him to have lunch with us?"
Jay packed his stuff and swung the bag over his shoulder, "Chill, it's not the end of the world. It's nice to have new friends once in a while. Besides, what can go wrong?" He implied while sliding the door open.
"Yeah, he's pretty nice too. You'll like him." Sunghoon nods in agreement. "He's not that bad, Hee. Just try to get along with him." He chuckles softly, causing me to silently mock him.
As we sit down, Sunoo and Jungwon walk over to us, looking like they're trying to hold in their laugh. They're not doing a good job at it since they're turning redder than a tomato. Once they sit down next to us, they immediately start to laugh.
"Hey, hey. What's wrong?" Sunghoon asked, holding Sunoo close by his waist.
"Ni-ki got detention on the second day of school!" Jungwon howls, nearly falling off his chair. I don't understand why they're laughing about this, he gets detention like almost every day.
Jay just rolls his eyes, "Didn't he get detention yesterday as well? Man, he just doesn't know when to shut up." He shakes his head slowly.
"Hello? Is this Jay?"
A voice spoke up behind me, it had a nice aussie accent to it. Not that strong of an accent, but still cute.
He nods, "That's me, welcome to the table Jake." he says while patting the space in between him and me. "Everyone, this is Jaeyun, but just call him Jake. This is a new student here." Jake bows slightly and sits down quietly, fixing his glasses.
Wait... the new kid from our class?
"Hi! I'm Sunoo! It's nice to meet you!" He exclaims, shaking his hand excitingly. He's always like this when it comes to new people. "This is Jungwon, and Ni-ki... well... he's in detention." He awkwardly chuckles after saying where Ni-ki was.
"What about him?" Jake asks, looking over at me with a raised eyebrow. I look away in embarrassment.
Sunoo takes a glance at me before turning back to him, "Oh, that's Heeseung. He doesn't like meeting new people." He teases, causing me to groan in frustration. Why did he have to bring that up?
Ni-ki runs up to us and starts to breathe heavily, "Sorry, guys. I got–"
"We know."
Ni-ki glares at me before turning his head over to Jake, "Hey, is this the new kid? I'm Ni-ki, it's nice to meet you." He said, trying to act innocent as if he didn't diss one of the teachers 30 minutes ago. "I hope you're enjoying your time here. Just don't mind Heeseung, he might be a little grumpy..."
He smiles, "Oh, I am. Thank you. You guys are popular here, right?"
Sunghoon nods, "Yep, but Heeseung is the most popular here. Ain't that right?"
"Stop talking about me like that, you're making me seem like a bad person." I muttered, making Sunghoon chuckle.
"Chill, it was just a joke."
I glare at Sunghoon before turning around and getting up, "I'm gonna play basketball with Soobin and Beomgyu. See you guys later." I tell them before waving and walking out into the basketball court.
They eye me for a few more seconds before they turn away, Jake being the first to speak up. "...Is he always this grumpy?"
Ni-ki shrugs while drinking a sip of water, "You'll get used to it."
