Y/n's POV

“ Sign the papers . " The stack of documents dangled  in front of my eyes as I sat by the balcony of the room which was supposed to be ours but had always felt mine alone . I glanced at the person holding them , his expression as stoic as it had been when we were asked to kiss in the church on our wedding day . Void of emotion , void of love .

I accepted the papers from him and then aligned my eyes on them . They were divorce papers. In place of feeling excited or even a spike of happiness, I felt hollow . Maybe it was because once I was out of this place , I had nowhere else to go.  “ Why…?” I didn't know what I had expected as I asked him that question. It slipped out without a hold . Taehyung was not fond of me , in fact he hated my presence in the same room .

If we were at some point of conversational stage before besides being intimate sometimes, it seemed as if he grew further distant than he was these past few months. I was utterly and painfully lonely, almost as if a bird caught in a golden cage . I was never allowed to step outside without at least ten people guarding me .

It had been more than a year since I had met or even talked to my friends and there wasn't even a moment I was loved ever since I was married to Kim Taehyung. Even if I had had the idea of it before, it was merely his kindness and sympathy which I had mixed up with love . It took me time to realise that but I did .

Our relationship was just a case of charity to him and his family . It was simple and meaningless to him.  He had his eyes on my father's faltering company and my father had an eye on his estates. He was prepared to do anything to get even a pinch of what the Kims had , even if that would be to sell his daughter to someone in the name of marriage .

"A company needs a strong leader, and Lee simply doesn't measure up to what Luma demands. Luma has the potential to bring immense fortune, and my son and I are determined to make that a reality. You're nothing more than an unwanted tagalong, appealing enough to be kept around but ultimately unnecessary.”

Kim Taesoon , Taehyung's father's words still rang in my ears sometimes when my eyes would match my husband's. It was a reminder of my worth . Somewhere at the back of my mind I had a delving anger while a part of my heart willed me to prove the older man wrong . But for something like that one must need self confidence. I had always lacked it .

“ It's high time I free you from this family. " I helplessly let out a snicker of laughter . “ Or free yourself from me rather . “ Taehyung didn't answer but his jaw tightened and he shifted his weight from one leg to the other. “ It's your wish how you would want to decipher this . " I nodded my head , hearing him . Then I extended my free hand to him . He placed the metal pen on my palm without a single word .

As I grabbed onto the object, I could feel the coldness of the pen course through the skin of my palm and then spread within my whole body . It was a terrible marriage and yet sometimes I would find myself getting lost in the moments of night with Taehyung where he was only ever so careful and affectionate towards me . And like a fool I had got myself attached to those occasional moments. A person who craved love would accept anything which was a sign of it .

A pen had never felt this heavy before as it felt at the moment when I signed the papers . After signing them , I stood up and for the last time looked into those soulless eyes . “ This is the first time in a year I've seen you doing something for yourself. You must love her a lot.” I breathed as my solemn eyes held his gaze strongly. The coldness of his eyes never stepped back once . “ Yes . " The depth of his voice never failed to make me feel chills ..

The dark eyes possibly couldn't have darkened more . Others would think of it that way . But as Taehyung took a steady step forward, reaching closer to me , I could visibly see the way they obscured . “ I love her . " He whispered, his answer stabbing my heart.

He was never mine and he never intended to make me his .

What I encountered last night flashed fresh in front of my eyes. A woman , slender and beautiful, so close to him with her hands framed around his body . The man who never let anyone touch him , who hated any kind of contact, how easily he and she had blended in each other's presence. I believed Taehyung. I had always believed him anyway. He never lied.

There was a knock on the door which broke the eye contact and caused Taehyung to turn away to where the sound came from . “ Yes . " A maid walked inside and stood by the door . I knew her , she had always been there ever since I married Taehyung and stepped inside this house . She would come and notify me about the monthly medical checkup every Kim had to go through.

“ It's time for your monthly health checkup mam. The driver is waiting. " She spoke the same lines as always as if a machine was set to do its job . She would say these exact words with not a single grammatical change and then would wait till I got ready and would walk out along with her till the car . “ Ask the driver to leave . I won't be needing it anymore. " I replied, walking inside the room . Taehyung followed in with a frown . " What do you mean?”

When I didn't answer and kept my back facing him , he held onto my wrist and made me turn around. “ You have to follow- " “ I don't. I'm no longer a Kim . " I replied as somberly as I could before snatching my hand away from his grip . The last thing I would want him to know was of my pregnancy. He didn't wish to have me in his life , he would never dream of having a child with me either. I looked at the maid and gestured to her to leave . She did so without any protest.

Last night was also the last time I had hoped . Hoped to be accepted, loved and to receive a happy reaction from Taehyung after telling him that he was going to be a father . But then my hopes were crushed and I was left being an empty shell.

“ You have to go through the rules as long as you are inside the house . " He looked as serious as ever while saying that . “ Then it's finally time to leave . " My eyes were stuck on our wedding picture hanging on the wall . It could easily give a false idea of our ‘happy’ marriage.

“ Where will you go ? " “ Let me figure it out for myself, Taehyung. I'm no longer your responsibility. " His eyes followed mine and stayed stuck on the picture while mine travelled to the divorce papers which still laid on the table outside in the balcony. “ You're right . " He whispered. I heard him .
