The couple, who had spent the night enjoying each other's company, finally had to get up and moving for the day.
While Jia had time before heading to work, Reuben was set to be on base early in the morning.
They had talked about the mission, at least what he knew of it, which wasn't much.
"All I know is that a lot of really talented pilots were recalled for this. So it must be something important."
None of that made Jia feel better. She knew she shouldn't worry too much until they knew more, but knowing just who was being recalled didn't instill much confidence.
But Reuben wanted to change the subject to something a bit lighter. "How's the shoot going?"
Jia smiled, making a quick breakfast for the two of them. "It's going pretty good. Only a week or two left of shooting, and we are done! I'm excited for this one, I've got to admit."
She placed the food in front of him, quickly settling in herself.
"Well, I'm glad you're enjoying this one. What's the basic plot again? I always forget."
She shrugged, shoveling some food into her mouth. Once she swallowed, she answered. "It's kind of all over the place. I'll be honest, I'm not even sure of the overall plot. But we've had stunt and fight locations on at least five separate sets, so it's action, and I'm assuming time travel cause each set was a different decade."
Reuben laughed. "Yeah, it definitely seems like a confusing plot. Anyone else on the team I know?"
He had gotten to know quite a few of her stunt friends, just as she had gotten to know his Navy friends.
Quite a few of the stuntmen had tried to recruit him once they found out what he did. (Those were mostly the ones who thought his adrenaline and flying skills would be useful.)
While he had declined the offers, happy and comfortable in his work, Reuben couldn't say he hadn't thought of it. The opportunity to work with his girl and do something crazy for the enjoyment of others had a certain appeal to it.
Jia's eyes lit up at his question. "Benji finally arrived for the last part of the shoot!"
That was the most exciting part of the shoot. Now, she finally had someone to really play off of. And if they needed a male-female fight, Jia and Benji were the duo you wanted. There was no one better.
"We will definitely have to have him over at some point. Mickey, too, it's always a riot when they get together." Reuben knew he was stirring the pot.
Jia, despite knowing what he was doing, shook her head rapidly. "No, not happening. The last time they were together, the kitchen nearly caught fire!"
He chuckled, thinking of that event. "So we keep them out of the kitchen and away from fire. It will still be fun."
Jia narrowed her eyes. "Fine. But if something happens, I'm blaming you. And you are on clean-up duty."
Reuben shook her outstretched hand, making a silent deal. But then he remembered something.
"Hey, Mickey wanted me to ask you something." He finished eating, grabbing Jia's also clean plate and rinsing them off before putting them into the dishwasher.
Jia raised an eyebrow. "And he can't just ask me himself?"
Reuben shrugged. "I'm guessing he wasn't sure when he would get to see you and didn't want to forget."
They both shared a look before shrugging. No one knew what went through Mickey's head half the time.
"Anyway, he wanted to know if it was possible for Kelsey to shadow you. She's seriously considering stunt work and wants to check out a set if possible."
Jia thinks for a few moments. "I'll have to check some of my TV work. She'd be better off observing a show, not a movie. And I'll have to get permission from the higher-ups, but I don't see why not."
Reuben kisses her cheek. "Perfect. I'll let him know, but tell him not to get her hopes up yet."
She nodded before checking the time. "You've got to go before you're late for your briefing."
So he grabs the last of his stuff, kisses Jia on the lips, and heads out, rushing just a bit.
She shook her head. He was running behind. If his head wasn't attached to his body, he would definitely forget it.
But that's one of the many things she loved about him. And Jia wouldn't trade any of it.

Bit short, but overall just a happy, fluffy morning for our couple!! Benji mention but you won't meet him until later chapters, so stay tuned for him.
And Kelsey is only mentioned here but doesn't come in until bonus chapters.
