We pulled up outside Will Parker's beach house and I took the keys out of the ignition. "I really don't want to be here." I moaned to Molly. "I've been to everything else, why must I be here?"
"Because you're the girl." Molly tried to explain to me.
"I'm the what?"
"You're the girl of Lakeside High. Everyone looks up to you. You're like, the homecoming queen, the junior prom queen, soon to be senior prom queen - "
"We don't know if I'm going to be - "
"Shut up. We both know it's going to be you." Molly interrupted, raising her hand in front of my face. "The point is, you go to these things because you're invited to everything. Everyone loves you Mia. So you have to show your appreciation."
Molly thought this sounded like a great thing, but I didn't. I didn't understand why I had to 'show my appreciation' for people being my friends. And besides, I barely knew Will Parker. He most likely wouldn't notice if I didn't show up.
"Come on Mia, it'll be fun!" Molly cupped her hands together to show me she was begging for me to get out of the car. I sighed and gave in to her emerald puppy dog eyes.
Just as I climbed out of the drivers seat, a body zoomed past me and almost shoved me back into the car. "Hey! Watch it!" I yell at the person who was skateboarding along the road.
The skateboarder spun around and began their apology. "Oh man I'm so - Hey mi amor, looking shit as per usual. Are you sure you bought that shirt in the right size?"
I didn't say anything, I simply turned to Molly and said "I'm done." And slid back into the car. I heard Molly cursing at Blake and he laughed and sped off towards the house.
"Mia come on that's one asshole out of about eighty who love you." Molly sat in the passenger seat and placed her hand on my shoulder.
I felt a tear fall down my cheek. "He called me mi amor." I sobbed quietly.
"I know Mia, I know. But you can't let him get to you. He's just nasty and he's jealous of how much everyone else loves you. Come on, you just need to walk in now with your head held high and show that prick that he can't get into your head."
Molly was right. I wiped my last tear away and checked myself in my rear view mirror before getting out of the car once again. "Let's do this."
We both strutted up the driveway and into the house. We followed the rest of the arriving guests into the kitchen where a swarm of seniors from every school in LA, if not California.
Molly told me she was going to get us drinks and I should stay put, but I couldn't help but look around the mansion of a beach house. I walked into the minimalistic living room, with windows surrounding the couches in the middle of the room, where couples were on top of each other, and they weren't having a chat.
Suddenly, I heard a friendly voice from behind me. "Mia!"
I whipped my head around to see my friend Ed running up to me. His eyes lit up as he got closer to me and as soon as he could reach me, he wrapped his hands around my waste and spun me around.
"Hey!" I exclaimed, as if I hadn't seen Ed in years. It had however been six months, and I missed him a lot. "How's New York?"
"Amazing! But it's no LA." Ed's pearly white spike turned to a frown. "I miss Lakeside."
