Chapter 13

".... Please..." A man whimpered painfully while tied to a chair. Congealed blood could be seen on the left side of his head. It had dripped down past his cheek and partially over his left eyelid. More blood came from one of the man's kneecaps, this blood flowed freely while Hiccup sat opposite of him, straddling a wooden chair and holding a revolver in his left hand.

"Now now, what did I tell you about lying to me?" Hiccup questioned, cocking his head to the side in an almost cute manner. The tied up man only whimpered more.

"What did I tell you about lying to me?" Hiccup asked again as he stared at the bleeding man while now cocking the hammer of his gun.

"That you hate it..." The injured captive gritted out over the pain.

"I hate liars as much as I hate snitches," Hiccup stated frankly. "And you unfortunately happened to be both,"

"I... I..." The man shivered as Hiccup's cold gaze washed over him.

"You know... I was having such a nice day today." Hiccup continued before standing up and pocketing his revolver in its holster next to his inner breast pocket. "I went on a great date, had a fun phone call with my mother, but then..." Here Hiccup stopped to emphasize the graveness of disturbing his peace. "My lieutenant comes in and tells me they caught the mole that was leaking info to the cops. The same info Grimmel got his hands on because most of the cops are in his back pocket. The info that got one of my warehouses burnt down causing the Family to lose over two million in profit," he growled. "See where I'm going with this?"

"And he lied about not knowing as well Boss," Ryker growled before kicking the chair the man was on causing both to fall with a painful thud. "The boss gave you everything ya know Davis. He plucked ya from the streets while you were still a junkie, got ya clean, and gave you a goddamn livelihood! And this is how ya repay him?! Betraying him for motherfucking Grimmel!!!"

"I HAD NO CHOICE!" their captive spat out.

"We always have a choice, Davis," Hiccup sighed. "You clearly made the choice to relapse after you got clean. You chose to buy smack from Grimmel's gang. You chose to become indebted to him and stab me in the back. Did you consider my feelings at all Jimmy-boy? I'm extremely hurt that I have to do this to you now," Hiccup expressed just as Viggo rolled in a rusted black oildrum.

Their captive's eyes widened and the man began to trash and plead but it all fell on deaf ears as Hiccup gave the order to the Grimborn brothers to deal with the situation.

He was walking out of the warehouse when a frantic Fishlegs ran up to him while holding his cell phone. "Hiccup, it's an emergency!" Fish uttered as he shoved the phone into his friend's hand.

"Hello?" Hiccup responds into the speaker, unsure of what made Fishlegs so jumpy.

"Hiccup, thank Thor," He recognized the voice on the other side as being from Heather whom he had met just today. "It's Astrid, she's missing!" At those words, blood drained from Hiccup's face and his hands turned clammy.

"What?!"

"I'm at her apartment with Damian. I came home from my shift and her front door was wide open and Damian was crying inside,"

"Can you take Damian and meet me at the corner near the bodega in 15 minutes?" He asked. "Leave everything as is. I'll have some of my guys come to look the scene over,"

"Fish..."

"I heard you. I'll drive," Fishlegs said while opening the driver's side of the sleek black town car. When Hiccup settled in the backseat he immediately started making some phone calls.

True to Hiccup's word and with Fishlegs breaking several traffic laws they made it to the bodega at the corner of Astrid's apartment complex within 15 minutes. Heather, still in her uniform, was holding Damian against her. The boy's face was nestled in the crook of her neck as Hiccup's car pulled up. He quickly opened the backseat door and told them to get in.

"How is he?" Hiccup asked once Heather was in the car and the door was closed.

"He cried himself to sleep," she said in a soft voice as she was loath to wake Damian up. "Apparently he woke up from Astrid's yelling and saw a figure dragging her out of the apartment over his shoulder. He kept quiet and stayed hidden on the couch so the man didn't see him."

"Did he see who?" Hiccup asked but Heather just shook her head.

"Okay, both of you will stay at my place for now while we search for Astrid," He uttered, shocking Heather. "It's best you call in sick for now, don't worry. It will be approved."

"Ookayy..." Heather said. "You do know I'm a cop right?"

"And you would have reported it to your precinct if you were sure they could be trusted," Hiccup deadpanned. "From what I know you're in no one's pocket and you don't trust your fellow officers to do a good job if a woman from a low-income neighbourhood goes missing."

"How did you..." she blinked in shock.

"Experience," Hiccup stated, cutting Heather off, just as a patrol car without lights pulled up behind them. Heather froze as she watched one of her colleagues step out and approach their vehicle. The cop tapped on the back window and Hiccup rolled it down.

"Samuels," Hiccup addressed the cop.

"He-Hello Don Haddock," the Patrol officer said nervously as his eyes widened upon seeing Heather in the car.

"I want apartment 205 secured. Any CCTV pulled and this treated as a very high priority,"

"But.... uhm..." the cop began.

"Did I stutter?" Hiccup questioned. "Have the CSU tech I have on payroll do a sweep of the place. Someone kidnapped my girlfriend,"

"Y-Yes sir," the officer stammered.

"And Samuels, I expect the utmost discretion," Hiccup ordered. "None of this gets out unless I want it to,"

"Right, I'll get on it boss," Samuels uttered before hurrying back to his car.

"Fishlegs, my place," Hiccup stated. "And have Ruff and Tuff bring some nightware that will fit Heather and Damian."

"I thought Grimmel's gang controlled most of the force," Heather uttered in shock.

"This is... partially true now," Hiccup shrugged. "I wouldn't have made it to my position by playing fair now would I?"

Hiccup waited for the realization to sink in and when it did Heather's eyes widened while she whispered "Are you actually blackmailing cops on Grimmel's payroll?!" Hiccup only graced her question with a knowing smirk.

"Mommy?" Damian groggily woke up, while trying to squirm out of Heather's hold.

"Hey bud," Hiccup greeted. "Your mommy isn't here right now but we'll find her," he assured.

"Uncle Hiccy?" Damian asked, confused.

"We'll find her," Hiccup assured as he ruffled the boy's hair as Fishlegs drove them to Hiccup's home.

Hiccup saw Heather's face. He stated "I rarely make promises I can't keep Heather. We will find your friend." Heather just nodded as she held Damian closer.

Meanwhile, Astrid finally came too with a groan. Her head and eyes were throbbing. She tried to move her body but found that something was restraining her against a chair. A chill ran down her body as she realized that part of her clothing near her shoulders had been ripped off.

She could vaguely remember what had transpired. From being pepper-sprayed, to being picked up like a ragdoll. She had screamed and thrashed as she was being dragged out hoping to alert any of her neighbours. Her assailant had gotten so annoyed at her that he had punched her in the head causing her to black out.

"Finally awake," A male voice uttered causing Astrid to look in the direction. Her vision was still blurry but she knew who it was and sneered.

"Now now, that's not a face a pretty lady should make," The man stated plainly. "It looks like I'll have to educate you,"
