I'm currently on my way to my job, unfortunately, the day is a miserable hot, and humid day. The packed sidewalks didn't make anything better.
Me: (Another boring day to a boring life), I thought with a sigh.
My name is (Y/N) (L/N), I'm nineteen with absolutely nothing to my life. I graduated Highschool but I never had any ambition to do anything more than that. So now I'm stuck with a shitty job that barely covers the rent for my crappy apartment.
On top of that, I have no one to turn to, my parents?.... I'd rather not speak about that. My grandparents or uncle? My pride would never allow me to beg those people for any help.
So I'm stuck in this crappy life of waking up, getting ready for work, working, going home, being alone doing random crap that doesn't make me happy, then sleeping, and repeating. But it's not exactly my fault; I don't know how to say it but this world itself never felt right. It was as if I wasn't supposed to be here. So growing up with that kind of feeling always made it hard to care.
I walked across the street as the crosswalk light turned white. I made my way past a building under construction.
I noticed a little girl around the age of six, run past me not looking where she was going. All that I noticed was her brown hair.
I continued to walk towards my work not paying any mind to my surroundings.
Random Lady: "Taylor!!!!" I lady screamed terrified.
Turning around I notice the little girl running into the middle of the road with carelessness.
The girl froze as she noticed a grey truck heading right towards her.
My body quickly moved running into the street. As the truck was mere seconds from me I grabbed the girl and pulled her into me. I rolled forward rolling out of the way of the truck. The truck braked and came to a stop a bit too late.
Truck Driver: "Are you two ok?" He asked concerned as he leaned out the window.
Me: "Yeah" I groaned trying to ignore the pain in my back.
I look at the terrified little girl in my arms.
Me: "You ok kid?" I asked as I got up pulling her to her feet.
She nodded as I pulled her out of the street before any other car came.
The girl's mother runs over and hugs her tightly as she lightly cries.
Lady: "Thank you." She said to me in between sobs.
I nodded as I rubbed my bruising arm.
Me: "It's no problem just keep an eye on your kid."
As I turned to walk away I couldn't help but chuckle. After everything that has happened I truly have remained the same, haven't I?
I've always been rather cocky but despite that, I've always had a desire to help anyone around me. It always confused anyone how contradictory I was. One minute I seemed selfish and full of myself, yet the other I always looked out for others.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by a scream, turning I internally groaned.
Me: (What is it now!)
I turn to see a guy in a hoodie running my way with a gun. He quickly stopped and grabbed the little girl I saved.
Lady: "NO!!" The mother screamed as she reached for her daughter.
The man kicked the woman to the ground and used his right arm to hold the girl in a chokehold. He chaotically waved the gun around.
