"Run!" Mina screamed.
Gigantron roared, the sound reverberating throughout the lair. I scrambled backwards. Its glowing eyes fixated on me, its razor-sharp claws scraping against the ground, sending sparks flying. My heart pounded in my chest, and my breaths came in short, ragged gasps.
The monster's clawed feet slammed into the ground as it advanced towards me, its eyes burning with fury. I turned around and sprinted toward the stairs. The metallic floor clanged under my footsteps, echoing the monstrous growls that chased me.
My foot caught on a loose cable, and I stumbled, hitting the floor hard. Pain shot through my knees and palms, but I scrambled to my feet. Mina was floating behind me.
"I must apologize, Miss Wakita," she said. "She doesn't do well around strangers."
The beast roared behind me, its hot breath washing over me as I regained my footing and bolted for the stairs. "That thing is a she?!"
I ran as fast as I could, my legs burning. The sound of the beast's heavy footsteps behind me was deafening. My vision blurred with moisture as I struggled to keep going.
Mina was following me closely. "Get back upstairs!" she urged.
The creature snarled and lunged, its claws grazing the back of my shirt. The stairs were in sight. I lunged for them, scrambling up the steps as quickly as possible.
Gigantron's growls echoed off the walls. I glanced behind me and saw the beast's massive body blocking the bottom of the stairs. It bared its teeth and glared at me, its crimson eyes filled with rage. The door shut, and I collapsed, panting.
I looked around, disoriented.
Gigantron's roars and the sound of heavy objects crashing reverberated through the walls. Heavy breaths escaped my lips. "M-Mina?"
"I'm here, Miss Wakita."
I turned around to see her hovering behind me, her core glowing faintly. She floated closer. My breath came in ragged gasps and my whole body trembled.
"What was that...thing?" I whispered.
"I'm sorry, Miss Wakita. I have contacted Ken," she explained. "Perhaps he can explain everything."
My hands shook as I walked up the stairs and out of the hall. I had to get out of this house.
I bolted up the stairs. My breath was still ragged from the escape. Mina's concerned voice followed me. "Miss Wakita, please, it would be best to wait for Ken."
"No," I snapped, panic lacing my voice. "What would be best is for me to go home."
I reached the bedroom and grabbed my dress from last night, the fabric still holding the faint scent of Kenji's cologne. Now, last night felt like a distant memory, overshadowed by the terror in the basement. I snatched up my heels and purse. Then I picked up my glasses and phone from the nightstand.
I hurried back down the stairs.
"Would you like me to get a taxi for you?" Mina asked once I got downstairs.
I shook my head. My mind was racing, my heart still pounding. I needed to get out of here. Away from that beast. Away from whatever madness was going on.
"Miss Wakita-"
"Stop!" I yelled. I took deep breaths. "I'm sorry. I just...I need to get home."
I went to the front door and threw it open, gasping as the bright sunlight blinded me. The fresh air hit me like a wave, but it did little to calm my thoughts. I needed to get far away from here, from the secrets and dangers lurking in Kenji's world. I fumbled with my phone, calling for a ride.
