Love at First Sight

Chapter 4

The next day,after school hours, we went to the famous Lincoln Park. It was a lively neighborhood with multitude activities of sports, culture, music and many more.

The scent of freshly grilled burgers and hotdogs escaped from the food trucks, enticing our growling stomachs. We passed by a band of street musicians jamming with their guitars,the melodies blended with the chirping of birds. We stopped by and gave them some pennies.

From families picnicking to friends chatting and laughing,the park's beauty left me awestruck. The serene park brought calmness to my mind, after a stressful day at school with our exhausted faces. Bright pink peonies blossom among the trees,their delicate silky petals undulated in cool breeze. Trees rustled their leaves in the wind.

A sigh of relief escaped from my lips. I felt a rush of happiness in me. I couldn't contain a grin from my face, as I spun around to face my friends and i wrapped my arms around them.

'You guys still up for the picnic?' I asked.

Bryan, Jasmine and Wes turned to look at each other with concerned looks.

Something in my gut was telling me they were lying.

'Uhh...you haven't told her yet?' Bryan whispered shyly.

"What's that?" I asked,growing more suspicious with their side talks.

"Nothing" They answered in unison. They gave awkward smiles which made me give a neutral look at them.

I arched my eyebrows at them. 'I know that smile. It means you're hiding something. Spill the beans!'

Jasmine stepped forward leaving few inches apart. 'Could you give us a minute,please?'

'Take all your time' Bryan said,tapping his watch and gazed at her. The boys gave us a little distance for our privacy.

I faced Jasmine. 'You want to tell me what's going on'

'Chill, it's not a biggie. Um....I thought....I thought it will be a good idea to make it a surprise date for you and Jayden.' Jasmine whispered quietly enough for no one to hear.

'Date?....' I shouted which made people staring at us. 'You crazy,Jas?'

'Shh shhhh....breathe.' Jasmine smiled and apologized that it was a silly joke. 'Surprise date,just to clarify. I don't want you to come third wheeling me and Bryan this time around. Remember the last time?'

'Aw...but i love third wheeling you besties. Last time,the waiter slipped my hand spilling all the wine on Bryan's clothes. It wasn't my fault.' I said, crossing my arms.

'It's either clumsy Isabella,hungry Isabella or crazy Bella that ruins our date.' Jasmine said, counting all three.

'She's accurate,bella. You are fond of ruining our cute moments.' Bryan said,butting in our conversation.

'I love those nicknames. I think crazy bella is the best.' Wes pointed out.

'Shut up,Wes' I said,rolling my eyes at him.

'I'm just saying.' Wes said,in surrender.

'Ouch Isabella' Jayden chuckled.

'Bad guy now,huh?....fine maybe next time you won't leave me out like i'm invisible. Besides,I love what i do and won't change it for anyone.' I said, pointing at myself.

'Please,just this one time,let us be?' Jasmine begged on her knees with her hands clapsed together.

I was feeling bad that they didn't like my behaviours. They never mentioned it to me once expect that one time.....ohhh. I sighed feeling sad. 'Okay,okay,okay whatever.'
